This was a little swap with my fellow Hunger Games nerd, The Mighty Ray, of her character Domino as Katniss Everdeen. Suffice to say, I had a *lot* of fun drawing it. :D

No, it didn't. :) If you've read the books, there's a lot more influence from Graeco-Roman history (gladiatorial fighting, the legend of child tributes being sent to the minotaur) than Battle Royale. :) To be honest, the concept of young people being forced to fight one another was an old one before any of these books were written/films were made. :)
No I know what you're getting at, but I think the comparison between Battle Royale and The Hunger Games is at best superficial. Kids fighting each other. The kids in Battle Royale and the kids in The Hunger Games come from different backgrounds, are selected in different circumstances, are subjected to different experiences. Saying that The Hunger Games was copied from Battle Royale is a bit like saying Twilight copied Interview with the Vampire because they've both got vampires in. :)
Personally I find the criticism at best a bit weak and at worse obstructive. It's a much better written book than most fiction marketed at the teenage reader and I think it stands up as a piece of literature to be enjoyed by adults, too. If it gets teenagers interested in reading decent writing, I approve, and if it has a good anti-violence message, which the series does, then that's all the better.

I'm not a fan of LotR, but I certainly wouldn't go so far as to call it crap! I think people just have to remember that we all have different tastes. :) If I don't like something, it doesn't mean it's rubbish, it just means it doesn't appeal to me. If we all liked the same thing, the world would be a pretty boring place. I like to find out about things other people like - there might be something I didn't know about them that makes me think those things are interesting! Tolerance is the key. :)
