Several hundred thousand dollars would need to be spent to upgrade this line to commercial passenger status. ._. Plus, the line doesn't really go anywhere that lots of people would want or need to get to/from. It's an ex-freight line from an older railroad turned tourist excursion line. It is currently owned by the Florida Central.
Yeah, it's probably Class I or II (line quality), and I saw the break in the right of way at a grade crossing. It's not like Cuyahoga Valley Scenic RR, which is theoretically capable of being connected to the CSX right-of-way in order to reach the lakefront Amtrak station in Cleveland and provide Cleveland-to-Akron commuter service. (Although I think extra overtaking/passing sections would be needed, as much of that is also single-track.)
No kidding? Glad to hear you're keeping a piece of history ticking! I've got a set of watchmaker's tools and a parts watch that I've disassembled and reassembled many times, but lack the courage to try cleaning and oiling any of my working watches... :/ I have a 21j Illinois lever set in sad need of a crystal, (not my fault) but I don't know if its a railroad watch. I love pocket watches of all types, and wear one whenever I get the chance. :3
I can imagine! I love the damaskeening they machined into the surfaces! Even parts that weren't meant to be seen were decorated. That attention to detail and craftsmanship is what sets them apart from anything made today. Except Patek Phillipe, but who can afford that? Heck, I'd be happy just to be able to afford to attend their watchmaker school! :D
Tis a very nice video there!! I so love the pocketwatch!! Here is a wee video of the Black River and Western's 1937 Baldwin Locomotive. I so miss volunteering for the railroad. I had a lot of fun!
