"Gem, ZeeZee, happy Eeser!" said the little bunny to her friends, hugging them as soon as she saw them.
"Happy Easter to you too, Jennie!" said ZeeZee. He was dressed for Easter like a big boy squirrel, and his father had even helped him put on a tie, so he looked very grown up indeed. He did of course still have to wear his training pants under his white shorts.
"Jennie! Eeser!" Gem said happily. Gem wasn't all dressed up, perhaps because her parents knew that she would probably find a mud puddle to play in if she were, but they had put a festive Marshmallow Peeps shirt on her.
"Wanna help hide eggs?" she said, holding up a basket of grass-padded plastic eggs. Most species try to find eggs at Easter time, but bunnies are the ones who hide them. They start training for this from a young age.
"I don't know, Jennie," said ZeeZee, "can we do that even though we're squirrels?"
"Sure! I get you bunny hats!" said Jennie, hopping off for a moment and coming back with rabbit-eared hats for the two squirrels to wear. "You can be honnory -- honorarr -- umm Eeser bunny helpers!"
"Oh, that sounds very important!" said ZeeZee.
Jennie nodded. "Yeah! Imporrant!"
"Huh?" wondered Gem as Jennie gave her a green hat. She gave ZeeZee a purple one.
ZeeZee held up his hat, saying, "See this, Gem, it goes on your head and gives you bunny ears!" He put it on, and his sister giggled at him, because she thought he looked quite silly with rabbit ears.
Gem's brother helped her on with her bunny hat. It was a bit too big for the little squirrel and fit very loosely. Her real ears wouldn't stay in the ear holes. "Ooo maybe you hafta hold it on wif one paw," said Jennie.
And so the three of them hid eggs in the forest glade behind Jennie's family's house, knowing that other cubs would be coming to look for them later on Easter Day.
[Here we see ZeeZee giving Gem another egg to hide while she attempts to keep her hat on and Jennie finds a good hiding place for her egg. She's training hard to become an Official Easter Bunny Egg Hider someday!
You can tell that I spent all my time on the characters and pretty much no time on the background! HAPPY EASTER EVERYBODY!]

Yayyy thankoo Aura! *HUG* It's allowed! But you hafta wear the hat! ^_^ This idea's been percolating in my head for a while and I just had to get it out -- ok it was mostly so I could draw ZeeZee and Gem wearing bunny ear hats, but also I have never actually drawn ZeeZee and Gem together, only separately, and I wanted to.
Wow, it's adorable! Thanks for the pic and the story! *hugs the bunny tight* I look so grown-up in my tie! And my bunny ears, they definitely help me look like a big boy too! Also, Gem's T-shirt is brilliant! Now come on, let's hide these eggs in really clever places! ^.^
Yayyyy I'm glad you like it ZeeZee! *HUGback* Yes you look super grown up wif your tie and I fink you look good in bunny ears! Ooo, I bet you can think of some super awesome egg places!
There were a lot of reasons I wanted to draw this, like
* I wanted to draw something for Easter, what with me being a bunny and all
* I don't think I've ever drawn you and Gem together before and I wanted to
* I thought of a pose I wanted to try out (the pose Gem is in)
* I wanted to use my idea for Jennie wanting to become an official Easter egg hider some day
* I wanted Jennie to make somebody an honorary bunny for Easter

Because ... because ... umm ... I dunno, it's just how we do it! ^_^
But wait, hiding Christmas presents in your socks makes sense, but hiding Easter eggs in them doesn't? Hiding presents under your tree indoors makes sense, but hiding eggs under trees outside doesn't? I dun get it ...

You are welcome Gem! :) You being squeakily happy is one of my favorite things! You are doing great hiding eggs -- see, ZeeZee is giving you another one because you already hid one before that. And probably some other ones before that too!
I fink your tail is tickling my feet though. ^_^
