I just got this picture last night as a surprise birthday gift (Thanks RD and silverfox <3) - so I don't know what the two of them cooked up. I can only guess as to how it played out, but -
IRL I'm a furrrrrrry molecular biologist finishing up uni/college that does research (which involves identifying the species of various things using their DNA but that's not really relevant) with a striped otter character that really, REALLY loves socks.
What's really the kicker is, unbeknownst to RelaxingDragon or anyone here (though I may have hinted at it), my irl project really is about to be cancelled ;_;
Maybe RD really did know, somehow. Maybe I'll go on to another lab and start a project to create socklife in my quest to show the public that socks are more than things to be used and thrown away, and I'm doomed to another project cancellation. Maybe I'll wander the streets, doing what I can to stay alive with the last few socks that I hold dear.
And maybe, maybe I'll just have to write a backstory to this.

After my project was cancelled, we had to scale back on nutrients, causing the sock-critter to slowly unravel.
In the picture I'm there at the end, despite many sleepless nights of writing grant proposals and begging for funding, no one sees fit to give me the means to keep sock-critter alive.
I decide to at least be there as my creation slowly loses consciousness transitioning back into individual socks, like a father watching his only child slowly fade away with only empty words as comfort...
or maybe it's artistic license so you can really tell what the growing critter is made of
Scientists always ruin the magic, right? :V

The content is what really drew me to this piece. I had to take a closer look after I noticed what was floating in the tank. I'm really curious as to what this picture is about. :) For having such cute characters, there's a lot of emotion in this piece. Maybe BECAUSE the characters are so child-like. Great job!
As much as this picture moves me I am very strongly reminded of this. --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLdn8QfxxCo
