It depends. I have a bit of history with the meme and 4chan types in general. I watched the show pre meme, thought it was ok, was mocked by the same people who now go on and on about it.
Some of the negative comments are trolls trolling other trolls. There is also the ubiquity of the meme.
But the main reason I think people make negative comments is that MLP fans force there way into every conversation, comment on every other video/image, ruin certain artists, ect.
