I used to become very frustrated when fantasy artist's interpretation of a sphinx is to have wings (sometimes not), a cat body, and a human head with cat features so overwhelming, it stops being a sphinx and become something entirely its own, but is still called a sphinx.

Now, to be frustrated by it now is to be eternally frustrated whenever I cruise art sites looking for sphinxes. It's like taking a creature with a fish tail, giving it flippers instead of arms, bugged out eyes on the side of its head and a wide mouth with fish lips and calling it a mermaid simply because it has the silhouette of the upper body of a human.

As a connoisseur of sphinxes, you can imagine how irritating it can be. But, I'll just have this picture as my single point of venting and that will be that.
