My second Pony portrait. One of those flash-of-inspiration things. Image just popped into my head last night and I had to draw it--did the entire thing in 2 days.
I had intended for her expression to look kind of snooty, as if she's looking down her nose at you, but my husband sees it as more ... he didn't really have word for it, but he described it as her looking at something and thinking "Hmm, it's not quite right, but I can fix it ..." I don't really see it, but hey, if her expression can be interpreted in more than one way, I'm all for that.
Fiddled with the eyes more than usual--added extra hightlights and a blue glowy tint to the pupils. Rarity just seems like she should have striking eyes, and since they're so big on the page, I figured they deserved some extra detail.
Done with ink, then colored in Photoshop.

Husband? Does that mean..... BAH! <waves hands> NOT IMPORTANT RIGHT NOW!
As to your intentions, I personally believe it's a lot closer to what you intended, but she still does look as if the person she looks down onto said something mildly shocking which peaked her curiosity (which might be what led your husband more towards that interpretation). Now ... I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, but a lot of people complement me for the expressions on the characters that I draw, so perhaps I could give some advice:
If I think snooty, then I think of eyes not fully open, it's kind of the "I don't even want to look at you" thing, but I've discovered there are two "sub-reasons" for this which create 2 variations, both of which I drew in these little "hospital comics" that I've made (excuse the poor quality, plus let's just focus on the eyes here):
Annoyance - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5690697/ (1st Panel)
The eyes show a mean look, this suggests being annoyed by the person present. It's arrogance in a "Bah, why do I have to deal with this stuff?!?!?!" way
Boredom - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5722820/ (1st Panel, also kind of the 2nd )
These eyes show a lack of interest, gotta watch out not to make them the opposite of the annoyance eyes, they have to be straight horizontal otherwise it'll look as if the person was sad
Woah boy, I once again made an overly long comment, sorry!
Everything else is really amazing! I am impressed with the details on the mane you did there, the details on the eyes amaze me too, I want to do art like this someday myself!

I see what you mean--I think at some point, it occurred to me that the eyes shouldn't be quite so wide, but I may have left them this way because I wanted to show as much of them as possible (that or I was lazy--maybe a little of both =P). I'm not too concerned about it--like I said, I kinda like that it can be interpreted in more than one way (on Facebook, someone said it looked like "Bitch, I'm FABULOUS!" which isn't too far from what I intended) but something to keep in mind when I get around to doing my comic book, where a specific mood needs to be interpreted.
And I don't mind the long comments--shows more interest, I think, and gives me something to think about.
And yah, Lee and I tied the knot a year and 4 days ago.

Yeah, I guess I try going for comics a lot hence I always try and make the emotions of a character obvious.
GASP! Wow then you just had an anniversary! My most sincere congratulations to the both of you :) Wish I had something for you guys, but .... you'll have to wait till Lee makes a cameo in my little crappy video in the summer, I have a little "Thank You" surprise planned for you two (yeah, he's the one doing the cameo, but hey, without you Dena, I'd never get the email and I'd just give up, plus you've been an inspiration for me too, so both of you get it).
