I thought this comic was titled "A Pikmin." You can imagine my disappointment.

The feather, dude. ._. Those things are attached to BONE.

Perhaps that one was getting ready to moult? Even the primaries and pinions moult from time to time- and usually not all at once.
Though I'm sure it still stung pretty bad :u

I was going to correct you anatomically- primaries still connect to feather "follicles", which connect to ligaments, which connect to the bones...

..but that doesn't invalidate your point at all, since TEETH connect much the same way :P (that gruesome rrrip you feel when you have a tooth extracted is the ligaments between the tooth and its socket tearing.) At least mature feathers do not have nerves and bloodflow in them. Brand new feathers called pinfeathers (that don't yet have the blade of the feather) do however have blood and nerves- and are apparently extremely sensitive to an avian.

I was reading lots of wikipedia when I was setting this comic up. :D

Also, note that this is roughly the same feather position that Sweetie Belle plucked from Scootaloo during Hearts and Hooves. One of the pinions, or at least one of the primaries. :B
