Oscillarae – Swingers.
The oscillarae are prehensile acrobats, spending the majority of their life leaping and swinging through tree branches. They are curious and social creatures, generally living in relatively large family groups of 15-20+. It’s rare to catch an Oscillarae alone as they usually have either a platonic life mate with them, or are exploring as a mated pair. Oscillarae mate for life. They also have a species-wide superstition that spending a whole night on the ground will bring The Va’iin- or the End Days, so the easiest way to find an Oscillarae is to somehow reach the treetops, where they frequently slip out from the safety of the canopy to sun themselves in the bright rays. Oscillarae are omnivores and use their two middle fingers, which have an extra joint and are therefore longer than the rest, to dig insects out of tree bark. They also relish berries and any other fruits, leaves, or vegetables they can find, as well as small reptiles, mammals, and birds. Their forearms are long and quite strong, as they use these limbs constantly to get around. It is hard for an oscillarae to hold still. They tend to sway back and forth, even during mealtime. Their back limbs are shorter than their arms, though they have stout feet with large, thick claws which they use during mating season combat or in self defense. Over the course of evolution and using their hind legs less and less, it is not uncommon for an oscillarae to be born without one or both limbs. The oscillarae females have extremely long tails, usually about ¾ to 1 ½ the length of their body, while the males range much shorter reaching no more than ½ the length of their body, and they change color with the seasons. During the winter months they are extra fluffy and the tail itself maintains the majority of the oscillarae’s body heat. They can often be found napping entirely cocooned in their tails, mated pairs cuddled up in the fluff. These creatures have large eyes that vary widely in color, as does their fur. The most common color combinations are generally cream, grey, chestnut, brown, white, black, and hints of mossy green. Markings usually consist of stripes, spots, or leafy patterns good for camouflage, though many have other peculiar markings. This species exists in the most curious of places due to their nature, anywhere they can get around while remaining off the ground, so unnatural colors aren’t unheard of. Oscillarae can live in jungles or forests, cliffsides, rock faces, or tall city structures and skyscrapers. There’s even rumored legend of oscillarae that live in the clouds or in secret water grottoes.
Oscillarae are mine. Lineart is mine. These are not an open species, though if you are interested in one let me know and maybe we can work something out. I was thinking about making these trade adopts, as I don't have a paypal or any way to currently get one. I guess it depends on if people like them. TwT; I worked hard on these, please don't steal them. Will be coloring them shortly.
Species, lineart by me.
