Its a typical pirate makeshift- striped sailcloth slung over ropes tied between oars as tentposts.

I was rather proud of the wheellock dag pistol as well...

You should be, but it doesn't stand out over things like: the lashings all look like they would work, the chests look like they could close & lock, the clothes look like they are actually tailored. Everything looks constructed like it would work...

Well.....

I grew up in a family business where I had access to tools of every kind from the earliest age, and I leanred how to make all kinds of stuff as well as how to sew (family taxidermy shop).
I made my living as a knifemaker for years in the 80s, taught myself black powder gunsmithing, and learned how to make historical uniforms well enough that I was actually supplying them to the re-enactor community for a while.

I just have this weird knack for learning how to make things, and my knowlege spills over into what I draw because I know how stuff is really constructed and I draw it that way without actually thinking about it too much.

Very nice, I need to look through your gallery some more but have you ever done fantasy pieces at all? I am starting to think I may wish to see what you could do to illustrate some of my own tales.

While I do sometimes draw fantasy, I have not for some time.

I am afraid I am no longer illustrating stories for people unless for friends, and under special circumstances.
Not being aloof or anything, I simply do not have the time anymore.
