Well... Yep that's my lift, with that car on it. What is it? 2004 Mercedes SL600 AMG, with a Bi-Turbo V12 as its powerplant. Want it? it's owned by a used car dealership, and it can be yours for 35,000 dollars! However it has a MINOR problem...
The suspension is hydrolic, (Factory mercedes hydrolic), and it has a problem which makes it not operate correctly. It jacks itself to full height upon putting it into drive, and it LAUNCHES itself up like a low rider. It sometimes lowers itself down but once it energizes the solenoids it skyrockets.
ABC Control Unit has been replaced by a mercedes dealership and they don't know what else it could be, I have found both control valve blocks are leaking. A small leak on these systems causes major problems. Oil is wicking through the wiring harness to the inside of the car, and into the control unit for the body control.
Basically the fix right now is $6000-$7000, $3000 of that is the 2 parts it needs. Still want it? :P

These are great cars! ...when they're working. :P
My father has a 2004 (R230, same body style as this but with a 5.0L 301 horse power V8) SL 500R, and it's got problems too. The transmission will, at normal road speeds, shift to fifth gear and get stuck there. The way to correct that is by pulling over, putting it in park and turning it off, then back on again. Though I've never heard of the ABC suspension shooting the car up like a taco wagon...how many miles are on this car?

I forgot the miles, but I can easily find that out tomorrow at work and post from work :P.
Yeah the ABC system is having quite a unique fault. The system won't actuate at all, just sits at full height even with the Star Diagnostic System plugged in and manually activating each of the valves. I can hear them click but no movement from the suspension system. It IS a used car, who knows what else is wrong with it.
For the shifting problem, a very common thing is the sensor plate in the transmission. It causes the transmission to act funny, and only fixed when car is turned off and restarted. Getting stuck in gear is rarer, however what I mainly experience (around that year too), is it suddenly slips into neutral while the selector lever is in D. Turning the car off and back on is the only way to get it out of Neutral. The plate is easy to change when you do a transmission service, its attached to the valve body, and is seperately replaceable. However you have to remove the valve body to do so.

I've seen at least one of these with the suspension system retrofit back to coil-overs somehow to get rid of the hydraulic shenanigans. I know my grandmother ended up doing that on her Cadillac that had the same auto-levelling suspension that failed into low-rider mode as well, since it was cheaper and more bulletproof than replacing the entire system to fix the problem in her case.
One thing it's taught me, is stay the Hades away from anything auto-whatever in suspension for long-term use. XD
The engines though are a peach to work on, or at least the heads were when I helped out at a local shade-tree that for some reason had really obscene-level engines show up. Saw a couple V12 'Benz, endless lines of 911's and 944's were the most common thing, with all manner of 'Benz a close third behind those two.
