Because they draw amazingly dreamy and ethereal imagery- couldn't help but get them to illustrate a recurring dream of mine.

His airplane 'wings' are often metaphorical and can take on many different shapes and elements. They're a personal addition and not otherwise associated with his character- as much as it would be cool to have magical airplane wings made from emotional energy one could use to fly.
In this instance, they're like branches, growing from his back and shedding faintly glowing leaves.
