Roundhouse Requiem

The Lake State Railway Company has packed up and moved on to newer motive power. The roundhouse ready tracks are full of not-so-ready ALCo and MLW power... C424s, M420Ws and RS-3s. I believe most of these have been scrapped by now.

Amen. There's a lot of historey here...it makes me die a little inside to see it just pushed by the wayside and ultimately lost forever.

This is very ture. The big issue is that museums have no room for such artifacts anymore. That or they simply do not have the funds to take proper care of their collections. So much history has been lost like that.

Just like they say, you can't save 'em all...though I wish priority could go to the more uncommon units. That way, we'd still have things like DL-109s and C855s...

What's comen name for the DL-109? that an early RS unit?

The DL-109 was an ALCo passenger cab unit. The prototype was called the 'Black Maria'. Here is the Wiki article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ALCO_DL-109

Oh... Alco's response to the EMD E units. Not a big fan of those type. I personally prefer Alco's FA series cab units.

Yeah, the 109 was an 'ugly duckling' of sorts for ALCo. (Similar situation as EMD's BL2) I am a big fan of the PAs myself. A real shame more of those have not survived.

Unfortunately, aside from the one or two rusting in Mexico, the only ones preserved are the one owned by Doyle McCormack, and the ATSF-painted one for the Smithsonian...

Though they are now nothing more than rusted frames without engines, trucks, or anything else, I'm sure they're still there. x3
