I rediscovered a video game series that had intrigued me in the past: Ty the Tasmanian Tiger. The premise is somewhat simple: a Thylacine (a marsupial nicknamed the “Tasmanian Tiger”) named Ty works to confront an evil cassowary Boss Cass who wants to exterminate all mammalian life. He is aided by various allies, from techno-genius koala Julius McGuffin to Ty’s mechanically-talented dingo girlfriend Shazza. In addition, we have Sly, Ty’s badass brother who used to work for Boss Cass until he discovered Cass’ lies and joined the good side. If I can find the three games for my Xbox, I am gonna get them.
Basically, this is the product of making a hybrid from two designs of Sly I saw on Ty the Tasmanian Tiger Wiki, the main pose being based off an illustration preceding the final confrontation against him in the first game. There’s just something about the combination that seemed workable, especially considering how Sly still seems a bit feral to me even in later games where he’s a hero instead of a villain. Particularly, I refer to his weapon, the “Deadlyrang” which explodes on contact. How fitting the skull motif is, huh?
For the bandana and jacket, I repurposed the variations of that old background “Defiance”, as I did with the Flamedramon piece Fuego y Humo I made last December. It made sense, I suppose.
As I made this piece, I alternated between watching NeonFoxLetsPlay's walkthrough of the first game and listening to “Brazilian Thought” by Dr. Who Dat? Again, [adult swim] (real or fanmade) bumper music does wonders for the artista’s mind.
