... In reference to 2001 of course, because of the situation.
This was inspired by one of the stories in the excellent serie of manga "2001 Nights" by Yukinobu Hoshino (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2001_Nights - related to the second story), and this is a situation I am planning to build as a little diorama - I already got everything for that, I just need time and mood...
The black background is done by copy/paste under Photoshop of course, was too lazy to do it fully at once, but I tried to make it not look this way by randomly taking background elements here and there (only the area around the outlines were filled originally).
I've got a pretty precise idea of the situation (where it is located exactly), but I won't tell you for you to build your own story... :) :)

Yes, it's a perfect side shot, and I tried to make his other arm appear but no position apart this one was convincing ; BTW his pressurized suit is so thick, it easily hides the entire other arm even if it is bent.
As for the shadows, do you realize the work it demands ? I haven't my whole day to do such a pic, you must not consider it as a representation of a real thing but as an idea put on paper the way it is, an idea. It's meant to have a certain amount of "dreaming scene" atmosphere, there is no other astronaut taking a pic of him from the side but his own representation of the whole scene from an external point of view, like a remembering.
And also, more work on the shadowing would have mean loss of details, my intuition told me that and my intuition rarely fails me thanks to my experience. I preferred to stop there rather than mess everything.

Bon...
Any more quetion ?

Huuummm...

That is pretty spooky, indeed.
I remember seeing the first Space Odyssey, but I never saw the sequel. It took me several years to understand just what was going on in the movie and what did the bizarre ending mean.
I can tell by the pictures you draw that you're a fan of sci-fi classics. Astronaut bunnies, aliens, robots and this, too. That's cool!

Ah, the meaning of 2001... It's pretty well explained in 2010 (the book at least), but the first time you see 2001, it's really a... singular experience LOL
I am certain nobody has been able to really understand 2001 at first vision, and like you it took me years also, and the 2010 book to see what it was all about.
Yep, I was, and still am a sci-fi addict, good ol' eighties sci-fi... ^^
