Okay... I think, after a time, I figured out what the meaning of this manga................not this image, but the manga is all about...
People are capable of many things.. many great things.. many terrible things even... But............. If you give them a hole... something that seems like it was made just for them.. and tell them that it is a hole that only they can fill, they will be drawn into it.. drawn deeper, and deeper, until they eventually become stuck in that hole... no way back, the only remaining direction is forward. Pushing, crawling, despite the pain, as they are stretched and distorted, until they are unrecognizable as the person they once were.
Well, take it or leave it..

it probably was....... still, it makes more sense then people climbing into holes just for no reason..

Amusing image; I've read the original- it was creepy, but this is an amusing parody of it... Though wouldn't Lyra's 'hole' be entered from the OTHER side? (As in, that's the exit)
