Belate birthday gift for Maximus Ursus
Two or three days ago I saw this documentary about ancient Rome militar organization.
An interesting thing I found was that the ancient Romans were the first to understand the importance for a nation of counting on a stable army: a group of professional soldiers that trained hard every day for being prepared in the event of a war.
The training regime was said to be very strict and most similar to modern days training in military; people unable to support the training were punished by the reduction of their food rations or by the assignment to works that were considered humiliating for men like cooking and laundry.
Well it appears that here there is a bear that won't certainly do laundry!
