The teeth were required for specific artistic reasons: in order to obtain a certain look that he wants to be able to draw.
My personal viewpoint is that since the characters drawn are anthros, then they are allowed to have such human features as teeth, belly buttons, and nipples despite looking like creatures that hatch from eggs like birds or reptiles.
And they're sexier that way too! ;)
