Cue the Star Trek 2 line!
So much for taking a break huh? Seems like I just cant keep my hands off of drawing, but this was really a fun picture. The idea suddenly popped into my head and I thought it would be a good practice to get back into the soft shading and of course a more relaxed working schedule, since I didnt set a deadline for myself on this one.
What I find amazing is, that there are so few Shere Khan pictures out there. Do none of you think that power is sexy? Well I do :P (And of course the fact that hes a tiger helps too :P)
When I started out, I actually just wanted to try out if I could draw him. I decided to go the same route as with my picture of Steele from Balto, where I didnt copy the style exactly as it was, but rather tried to mix it with my own drawing style. I think the result looks pretty good. Some of his features arent as over the top as they were in the cartoon show and yet he is still recognizeable.
Where I really had some problems was the background. I knew I wanted to have Cape Suzette there with the cliffs and all, but because the designs from the show are so elaborate for some of the buildings, I felt kinda lost. So I had to rework the skyline quite a few times, but I'm satisfied with it now.
Oh and it was good to draw a clean picture again after all those porn commissions :P
Enjoy!

It certainly was. I read somewhere that it wasnt really meant as a spin-off from The Jungle Book at firt, but I personally really loved the idea. Its alway cool to see characters in "What If?" scenarios where they suddenly have completely different roles. I especially liked that they made Shere Khan an anti-hero rather than a full blown villian. Even if it might just be for the sake that I can fanboy over him even more. :P
Thanks! :) I really loved the show too. They did so many cool things with the Jungle Book characters like the friendship between Louie and Baloo, plus the addition of such great characters as Don Karnage. :P
Now if Mowgli appeared, I think it would cause a dimensional rift or something, just because it would be such an odd event. xP

I'm a little late, obviously, but ol' Khanny looks pretty good here. He seems a little younger than on the show, but really well done. I notice you've given him five fingers, which is completely on-model. I don't know why, but he was the only character on the show to deviate from the four finger model. Beyond using characters from the Jungle Book, Talespin also incorporated elements of a short lived live action show called Tales of the Golden Monkey.
