Today I'm going to be at the South Texas Brony Festival (link). It's in a park I used to go to all the time as a kid, and should be a good time!
I've pored over the brilliant, fun designs on the show, in particular the deceptively simple backgrounds, in order to try and improve my primitive color sense. MLP:FIM has a lot of fantastic work in it.
I designed these two when I was poking around websites and discovered the brony organizers and fan groups apparently had no mascots! Bluebonnet I intended to represent South Texas fandom, while Lone Star represents the Texas fandom as a whole.
I'll be doing commissions, in case someone there wants some art!

A neat pair of designs. I wonder if the Texas fans are mostly for Applejack...
It's very deceptive as to how much work it takes to make it look so simple, isn't it? I've seen pro animators go "Big deal, I can do that easy." only to come back later with their tail between their legs and a confession as to what effort it actually required. Personally, I've always been impressed by the show (And other series Faust worked on) because I know what a BITCH it is to get Flash to do anything. It's like trying to paint the Sistine Chapel with a floor mop dipped in pond scum.

They're a braid common on folklorico dancers, which I imagine you don't see too many of way up the East Coast! But besides it being instantly recognizable to folks here, it's a hairstyle not yet used on a Pony. I wanted the desings to be distinctive and not look like simple recolors. So I'm standing by the braids. :)
*pfft* Stupid pastel ponies... Pound Puppies -- that's where the action is! :)
But, seriously -- very nice work. I've been trying to draw these darned ponies for a year and yet you seemed to have nailed the basic designs relatively quickly.
The quality of the artwork on the show flows directly from those deceptively simple designs. Yet at times they can be stunning and complex. My favorite example is the scene in Canterlot palace where Discord appears in the stained-glass windows. The design of that whole scene just blows me away each time I see it.
