EDIT: Ctrl + F5 for a larger size, then maybe, JUST MAYBE, you can read my handwriting c:
I get a lot of comments and PM's enquiring about how I draw hair, so here's how xD No, it's not the swooshy mad stuff, but the basics :D
Step 1: Draw a head. Duh. Depending on the shape of the head, muzzle and whatever else will be on your character, you need to know what the hair will be working around and how it will influence it's shape.
Step 2: So just know where your parting lines are. Seriously, look in a mirror and look at your own. Once you know where your hair is working from it just makes the whole process so much easier. It also helps to map out what's happening with the fringe/bangs/whatever you call it.
Step 3,4 & 5: This is where I draw it out in 'clumps' as sort of crescent moon shapes. Stick to the simple stuff, and then add small lines hugging the bend INTO the hair to add a sense of depth and volume to the hair. It also helps in knowing which way it's moving, such as if it's twisting and what not. Use layers to help with any mistakes you might make, and don't be afraid to go over previously drawn clumps to add to that party on your head c:
Step 6: Pretty much what I said before about going over what you have previously drawn with any additional loose strands of hair to just help make it look lighter or heavier. There isn't a right or wrong with hair because no matter how much you try to keep it in line, it's going to do it's own thing xD
Hope it helps? I'll probably look at this at some point in the future and cringe at how badly I drew hair xD
