I feel exactly the same way about tepig, I would have chosen it but I really do not like it's evolutions at all, that plus I'd had both fire/fighting starters before too and I wanted something else. I really didn't like oshawott at first but I love love it's second form, and it's third is okay... I actually had no idea it was his evolution when I first saw it. I was like "WHO THE FUCK IS THIS COOL THING AND WHERE DO I....oh" XD
