I told
Lynne_Kitty I slept in a tent. And I do. Really.
I got that bed when I was about 8 and I've been sleeping in it for over 50 years.
Damn... Where did the time go...

That's...very much what I imagined your quarters might look like. I'd be most curious to learn the stories of your attendant great cats, should you ever care to share them.
We too are believers in "the place where one spends a third of one's life should be nothing short of delightful." This picture was taken early after moving in -- the far wall's now occupied by the shelves where Ming sleeps, watching over us, and the left window is now a doorway into our lounge/my wife's craft room -- but it will at least provide a sense of scale and majesty, I hope. Egyptian linen, though the suede coverlet has since been replaced with a lighter and more Florida-friendly solution.

How does it feel to be 59? Not that much different from 29, except slower. And I need to be here. To remind the younger generation that they did not invent the world. They did not invent furry, either. It was born around 1985, when I was in my thirties. I am one of its parents.
The bed came from the Charles Addams estate. THAT Charles Addams. (New Yorker cartoonist; creator of the cartoons that eventually evolved into the Addams Family.) It was a MAGNIFICENT house, with closets big enough to be dorm rooms and a spiral staircase to the attic. It was part of a complex WAY out in the countryside that included a more modern Tudor-style home (where the owners lived) and an Italian restaurant. My parents used to shop for antiques out there before antique prices went through the roof.
Then, about thirty years ago, the complex was plagued by a series of fires. First the restaurant went, then the Tudor home, and finally the old Addams house. All this took place over an 18 month period and was determined to be arson, though who set the fires and why I don't know. It was probably some insurance thing, but I can't say that for sure.

Wow! That bed has some history to it. You know of a site with photo's of the place? I love to see those.
Did you see the original tv series? I got 'em on dvd last year and loved it. And I figured out why the Teletubbies are so creepy, in the Adamses greenhouse there stands a bust of the Adamses uncles, a teletubbies bust! I kid you not!!!
As to heirlooms we have an old alcove bed with beautifully carved posts that my father saved in the 70's from a bonfire and painstakingly restored to its former glory by removing the layers of old paint which also obscured some of the finer details, treating it against woodworm and re-sappig the wood. Slept in the thing my entire childhood. At the moment it stand in my aunts guest room.
Now that I think of it there is an Adams style house here in Mechelen - http://maps.google.be/maps?vector=1
Should the link not work try looking for this in Google maps "33 Berkenhofstraat, Mechelen, Vlaams Gewest, België" It on the opposite side of the street though.
