The trees were giving me problems with this piece and I fixed them and I like this better.
When I worked at Earthbound I learned a lot about the different hindu gods, mostly learned about Ganesha. He was a very symbolic god an I loved that about him, so I did my own take on him.
Even though the elephant head was a replacement for the head he lost I still wanted to make his body something that was similar to the elephant colors. I also wanted to make him more down to earth, since he's considered a humble god(at least that's what i've learned i could be wrong). Less garneshed with gold and decor and more plain jane kinda look, like a monk.
He is the god that removes all obstacles
(I might be wrong with this so correct me if needed)
Symbolism of Ganesha:
Large Head - great wisdom
Large Ears - Listening and attentiveness
Trunk - adaptability
Broken Tusk - sacrifices needed to gain wisdom, to throw away the bad and keep the good
Large Belly - peacefully digest all good and bad in life
Modaka Balls - rewards of Sadhana
Open Palm - Blessings and Protection
Lotus Blossom - enlightenment
Axe - cut all bonds of attachment
Small Eyes - Concentration
Small Mouth - Talk Little
Om Symbol - enables us to maintain mental and emotional calmness, overcome obstacles and enable understanding.
I had him sitting in lotus pose with his trunk in a edampuri pose, pointed to the left.

Life's been kinda crazy for me, in a odd way, and I keep seeing this guy show up in various places in my life. Through a friend of mine and now you.. perhaps it's time I just let his advice come my way.. instead of trying to sort through the madness.

This is an excellent representation of Lord Ganesh(a)! I really love how you've kept the elephant colour scheme and portrayed his character. I have a little bit of an obsession with him myself, and keep a flower shrine with a little statue of him in the middle. He truly is a marvel. The colours here are extremely soft and inviting, and the touch of white outlining him really makes him pop from the page. I actually prefer the simplistic style of clothing as it gives him a more natural look. While not traditional; I think it still does him great justice.
This would make a lovely print. ;;
Gorgeous work.

ooo yes :3 I have some little resin statues of him, but I really want this nice stone statue i saw of him at a local smoke shop i regularly visit. i wanted him to be more gentle looking, like you could give him a hug and he wouldn't mind. A more noble look to him, something that is not all gold and decorations on him, which seems like the total opposite of humble. I'm glad I did him justice :3
It already is a print :D
