Holy crap I had so much trouble with this pose, you have no idea!
Anyways, a little known fact about me is that I am actually a big fan of martial arts movies. Even though I usually can't stomach movies with Crouching-Tiger-Style stylized martial arts, one of my favorite martial arts movies is still Forbidden Kingdom.
For some reason, I think the stylized martial arts really work in that movie. The clothing and set designs are simply beautiful and Jet Li's portrayal of Sun Wukong, the Monkey King of Chinese folklore is just so much fun to watch. I always wanted to try my hand at drawing a female version.
I wanted to take a break from doing commissions, comics, and things for my fictional universe to just sit and do something really fun just for the hell of it.
So a wild Sonya Wukong appears!
From the Wikipedia Entry on Sun Wukong
Sun Wukong possesses an immense amount of strength; he is able to lift his 13,500 jīn (8,100 kg or 17,881 lbs) staff with ease. He is also superbly fast, able to travel 108,000 li (54,000 kilometers or 33,554 mi) in one somersault. Sun knows 72 transformations, which allows him to transform into various animals and objects; he has trouble, however, transforming into other people, because he is unable to complete the transformation of his tail. He is a skilled fighter, capable of holding his own against the best generals of heaven. Each of his hairs possesses magical properties, and is capable of transforming either into a clone of the Monkey King himself, or various weapons, animals, and other objects. He also knows spells that can command wind, part water, conjure protective circles against demons, and freeze humans, demons, and gods alike.
Okay, so Sonya here probably isn't THAT powerful, but she'd give Dr. Zaius a run for his money. And don't you dare call her a baboon to her face... you might be walking away from that conversation minus a few teeth. >_>
Her design isn't based on any specific breed of monkey, but her colorization is loosely (VERY loosely) based on that of a golden monkey.
I don't know why monkeys tend to get such a bad rep even in the furry world. I think they can be really fun and energetic to draw!
Tools Used: Mechanical Pencil, Paper, Scanner, Photoshop, Paint Tool Sai
Time Taken: Unrecorded
Soundtrack: The Chinese Garden - Ambient Musical (Particularly the first song played)
