Sundancer sat back and looked at the screen thoughtfully, lines of code wavered before her optics as she considered them. A hand settled onto her shoulder and she looked up at the owner of the hand, smiling slightly. Knockout returned the grin and set a cube of energon down before her.
"You need a break, Starscream's got a few things set up in the break area. I think you'll enjoy them, they're games of sort," Knockout stated, his grin switching to a mischievous smirk.
Looking at him with a slight air of disbelief (Sundancer had never known Starscream to offer up a moment of true relaxation to anyone), she stood, the cube gripped in her right hand. Ever since confronting her in her quarters, Knockout had become congenial toward her and that sense had slowly turned into a friendship of sorts. They still had their spats and tended to irritate one another, but that was normal in all friendships, from her experience.
"All right, I'll take the bait. But this isn't going to be like his last 'game' is it? You know, a training session that he claimed was an act of kindness toward the crew?" Sundancer asked, her tone sweet.
Knockout laughed, "That was no game. We'd gotten word there was a traitor on-board."
"No way… a traitor to who? I mean, there's just the High Council, who would they be spying for?" Sundancer asked, genuinely surprised.
"There's a gladiator in Kaon who's spouting something about the class-system," Knockout shrugged as he talked, settling an arm about her shoulders and guiding her toward the door, "It seems that there are fools willing enough to follow him though."
"I'm shocked the Council would even care. From what I experienced in the archives, they really don't give a slag about what bots saying, especially those considered beneath their class," Sundancer stated, taking a sip of her energon, her optics going wide as she felt the rush she associated with a cube of excellent high grade.
"Careful what you say, there're spies amongst us," Knockout whispered, looking about at the walls superstitiously before bursting out with laughter when she followed suit.
A fist hit him in the side, causing him to oomph with the air released from his vents. She glowered at him when he turned a glare on her. After a few tense moments, they both smirked and continued walking.
Entering the break area, Sundancer's breath was taken away as she looked about at the different colored lights and the way the area was set up. It was like being in one of the high-class, fashionable clubs. One where a comedian bot would be trying to make a name for him or herself or a singer would be wailing about some long-lost mate. It was dazzling. And an experience she had only had once, when a young medical bot named Fixit had taken her on a date to one. She hoped the entertainment would be better this time, though she doubted it, considering their crew was made of mainly of scientists.
"So you do know how to relax and party," Sundancer called out, staring at the still form of Starscream. He was standing near the stage, his red optics staring down at her.
The way he remained silent was unnerving, normally one couldn't convince the Commander to shut up, if they had drawn attention to one of his deficiencies that he did not believe he had. It was something of a game for her, to get him riled up. But this time, it wasn't working.
Knockout's arm slipped from around her shoulders and he walked toward the still form of Starscream. Sundancer watched him for a moment before turning away and walking toward the makeshift bar. One of the lower level maintenance bots was standing there, acting as a bartender. He grinned at her, offering up a cube of high grade that had a tinge of blue amongst the normal purple/pink color.
As she took the drink, a hand drop onto her shoulder, causing her to jump. She could have sworn she knew the placement of every mech in the room, but she hadn't caught the signal of whoever was standing behind her. Spinning, she gaped up at the smug faceplate of Starscream, narrowing her optics and slapping him a moment a later.
"You made me drop my drink!" Sundancer snapped, her optics flickering over to the prone form of what she had thought was Starscream, his signal still echoing back at her from the area. Knockout was walking over, looking mildly miffed.
"So, Commander, how'd you manage that little parlor trick?" Knockout's voice came out in a sneer as he glared at the Seeker before taking a cube from the mech behind the 'bar'.
"This," Starscream said, his voice equally as smug as the look on his faceplate as he held up a small square device, no longer than the shortest area of his smallest claw.
"What is it?" Sundancer asked, snatching it from his hand and turning it over in her hands, examining its smooth surface, seeking an answer to her question.
"A signal cloak," Knockout stated without enthusiasm, "He was boasting about it the other dark cycle, you were busy with your code."
"How is that going, by the way?" Knockout didn't give her a chance to respond, instead he seemed eager to change the subject.
"Uh, well, okay. The relic is definitely what the High Council believed it to be. It is the recorder from the vessel known as the Titan. A lot of the code was damaged by its stellar cycles on that organic planet though. I'm trying to piece it all back together again," Sundancer explained, any formality she might have extended the two mechs beside her gone.
"Then it is a ghost tale we seek," Starscream answered, sounding less than interested.
"Apparently," Sundancer nodded, still holding the cloaking device in her hand, "Someone could use this to get around this ship without being noticed, you know?"
Knockout and Starscream exchanged looks over her head before turning back to her. The looks were split second and she never would have noticed, but they never looked at each other while in her company unless they had to or unless they had decided they needed to push her away from a certain topic. It was annoying, but she usually allowed them to steer her away and this time was going to be no different.
"Enough about work, let's enjoy what has been created for our enjoyment," Knockout stated, wrapping an arm about her shoulders as Starscream settled his against her back, both of them guiding her away from the bar.
Gently, Starscream plucked the device from her hand and slid it into a hidden compartment beneath his armor, smiling down at her. He pulled a chair out from a table, allowing her to take it before settling himself across from her. Knockout sat between the two of them, leaning back in his chair, smiling smugly.
"You two didn't win, I am going to find out more about this apparent mole/traitor," Sundancer stated matter-of-factly.
"Watch where you step, 'Dancer. We are all being watched and it's not by someone who can be manipulated by either of us," Knockout responded, looking directly at her.
"I figured as much, or else, he," Sundancer started, pointing at Starscream, "wouldn't be worried about it."
An act stepped onto the stage, one of the mechs who served as a nurse in Knockout's medical bay so that the 'good doctor' could do his experiments even when a crew member was injured or ill. It turned out the nurse had wanted to be part of the entertainment caste, but had been told he would make a better medical bot. Sundancer found herself agreeing with his creators. No one with a voice like that should be allowed near a microphone.
"You'll have to bring me into the loop, I can do things you two can't… being the only femme aboard does have its advantages, you know," Sundancer said in a low tone, looking back at the nurse and missing the twin looks of horror her two friends sent her way.
It never crossed her mind that the last thing they wanted her doing was to get information by getting close with the other mechs aboard the ship.
Sorry about the long post, but Valong requested this to be posted a long with the art~.
Finished this sucker during a LS earlier, happy it's finally done!
