So I have been wanting to do something extra special for my mom this mother's day, and have been searching for hummingbird specific items and such as gifts for her. My main project I wanted to make for her was a cake, at the bakery, with an edible picture on it that I could draw. So I came up with this. At first it was going to be a rather extravagant image, with a background and everything, but I was asking my supervisor more about the edible images, and it just won't be as pretty if I make it too complex. Especially when reverting to high res to the edible picture image.
After speaking with my supervisor and our cake decorators, Pat and Lori, I decided to make something with a hummingbird, and a little writing, and leave a space for a buttercream rose to be placed on the image. I am hoping this is a big enough space, and I'm hoping it's not too big.
Like a tard, I did the entire thing in the resolutions that I knew I'd have to have to fit on the cake. So I made the SAI canvas the 8"x10" dimensions to get a feel for how big it would be, and then I didn't think clearly and just started drawing. So, it may not look sharp and precise, but by the time I was halfway finished and happy with the hummer bird, it was a bit too late to change it. Besides, it's gonna be eaten lol. Nom Nom hummer bird.
I am going to have it just be a white cake, with yellow trim and a yellow rose. I might get them to write "We Love You" in icing, but first I'll see what they can do, and who is going to be working on cake duty the day it will be made. ( some of the ladies can write smaller than others )
I didn't want it to be too busy, but didn't want it to be too plain either. Should I make the cake icing yellow instead? (The picture's white part will remain white, because they won't spray the area under the image ) That yellow border might look strange if the cake icing remains white.
Give me your opinions if you wish to, but I'll also be talking with the ladies at work to get their two cents on the matter. I am looking forward to getting this cake made for her, and I hope it comes out looking gorgeous~
