A while ago, keedot and I agreed to do a trade: she would do a request of mine, and I'd draw her llama witchdoctor character Sapaki (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7814091/). She went a little overboard on hers and ended with a finished painting instead of a sketch (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7821442/).
So I went a little overboard in return.
There are a couple of ideas behind this. First is the usage of knots in the working of folk magic in South America, and second is the Incan use of the quipu - a series of knotted strings used to communicate in the absence of a written language, http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3291/.....8ec755a5_o.jpg - that originated in the Andes, where llamas are from, of course. With a folk understanding of knotwork as magic, the quipu could become a very powerful magical artifact, almost a spell in its own right.
