Since Sabre lives alone in a cave at the top of a tall mountain - in a location that is supposed to be top secret - I thought it would be a pretty funny idea to show Sabre confronting an intruder that has knocked on his "door". With how much gold Sabre is hoarding inside, it's understandable that the dragon would be so paranoid all the time! It makes for a pretty entertaining action shot to see a grumpy dragon about to greet his uninvited "guest".
I love how you showed Sabre so effortlessly moving that massive boulder with those movement lines! It's as if the whole thing is made of styrofoam with how easily he was able to shove it aside (heck, maybe it is and it's just a decoy!) It's so funny how Sabre has his whole right arm cocked with a tight fist ready to wallop whichever creature dared wake him up from his dragonnap! This angry dragon means business!
I also like how you did his angry face, as well as the shape of his head as he glares at the viewer. Drawing any snouted animal in portrait view is always such a challenge! The face can often look quite flat and goofy sometimes, but you made it work here by tipping his snout down a bit. That piercing glare is just so intimidating!
It's also neat how dark you were able to make the cave entrance behind the colourful dragon who has just stepped into the sunlight. The darkness of the cave adds an element of spookiness and mystery to the picture, as the fierce creature exits the confines of his lair.
All the work in the colouring you did is so amazing! I love how deep and bold you made Sabre's contrasting colours look! You did a fantastic job representing the lighting on his legs, showing how the sunlight is bouncing off his blue scales. Your mix of orange and yellow in his golden secondary scales and wing membrane also looks fantastic! Sabre really stands out in the picture because of this.
There's also a neat mix of colours in the sandy ground in front of Sabre's feet too! I love how blue you made the sky above, as well as all of the shading you did in the folds and crevices of the boulder, as well as the surrounding rock. Adding a bit of vegetation into the picture with the shrub and some grass really helped to add even more variety of colours. The big scorpion on top of his cave was also a neat and cute touch! Another interesting little detail I noticed is how Sabre's tail is reared up kind of like the scorpion's tail! His whole body language and posture looks like he's ready to strike!
As you can tell, I quite like what you produced here Innuk! It was exactly how I envisioned the scene looking. You have quite an impressive marker set that delivers some superb results! Thanks for working so hard on this!
