What kind of dog is that looks like a calico german shepard

It's a German Shepherd (though many GSD breeders question the heritage, white IS accepted in small amounts on a GSD, which makes it possible for this to occur naturally), the coloration is called "Panda" - they've been dubbed the Panda Shepherds. :)

Yes, the white is more of a complete masking gene, which is also considered a fault (as with the high white and panda, as well as liver and blue).
I love GSDs. Could never own one, because I'm not active enough to give it the exercise it would require (I live in an apartment as well, and I don't believe in owning large dogs in transient housing), but love them nonetheless.
