I did this for a poster, expecting it would never be used as such. It wasn't... I sometimes think most of my life was never put to good use. But let that fucker Andy Worhol sneeze and someone would snatch the hanky and publish it on the cover of Life magazine. I'm coming to believe that our lives are planned well in advance to succeed or fail, despite anything we do.

That certainly may be the case, but if so the timing of our successes and failures are also predetermined. And we don't know what comes next. Besides, there's no way to opt out of the game.

There is a way out... except it's the same way the game ends in any case, so are you really opting out or just playing the game a different way? The only way I know to change the outcome completely is to live forever... but I haven't worked out all the details yet.
I haven't seen a lot of it, but when I was fan guest of honour at the Montreal worldcon in 2009, I managed to see a little of the neighborhood around the convention center, and the day after the con I went with a friend to the top of the "mountain." We also walked from the metro to the foot of the park before taking the bus the rest of the way. What I saw of Montreal, I liked.
I had previously only seen it as a kid, when my folks took me to Expo 67, the World's Fair. I don't recall much of the city from that visit, but have vivid memories of the fair.

I have not ventured into Canada...I did fly over Canada en route to a European trip in March 2001 months before the 9/11 security precautions. Whirlwind budget European tour...8 countries in 2 weeks. Have to line up for the tour bus at 7am most of the time but that was fun. Seeing the film "If It's Tuesday, It Must Be Belgium" prepared me a lot.
My sister and her family visited Vancouver several times...I'd like to visit there soon.

I only saw downtown Vancouver once, on a trip to stay with a friend in Nanaimo. But Nanaimo is on Vancouver Island, across the strait, and there's almost nothing there to see. We drove around a little, to see some of the country and toured an old lighthouse, a 100 year-old pharamacy, and one or two other things, but that was pretty much all the town had to offer. It was an old timber-town and wasn't called the asshole of Vancouver Island for nothing.
First thing I noticed about the Metro was that the doors pop open before the train is completely stopped. I guess Montrealers are used to it. But claims that their trains are quieter and smoother-riding are suspect. At least nowadays, NYC's are a lot quieter (inside) and ride a lot smoother at speed.
