A more modern Jolly Roger
NOTE TO FA STAFF: As quoted by your own AUP:
"Manufactured/Collected Items - Photographs of mass manufactured/commercially available items (which you have not personally developed or created) are not permitted...Exceptions are made for items which are staged in an artistic, dynamic setting..."
This is an artistic, dynamic setting. I've staged three objects against a plain background for taking a still life photo, replicating pirate flags of old with real objects.

I've seen several .50 caliber rifles myself. Part of the Dragunov's scarcity is the fact that we're not importing any and haven't since 1994. Even when we did import them, only about 3300 ever made it in.
Infantry Mosin Nagants are never duplicated, so if you find one you like, buy it. Only the sniper versions are faked. This is because they're worth about $600 or so, while regular Nagants are $100. World War II era telescopes are about $100, so what people will do is take a common, infantry Nagant, put a period correct telescope on it, then sell it for triple the money.
To tell the fakes from the real ones, you need to know what to look for. Most of the markings are on the reciever. The first mark is a set of concentric rings, basically a little image of a target engraved on the metal. Next depends on the rifle. Izhmach made Nagants will have their serial number on the left side of the reciever, in the metal just above where the wood of the stock meets the metal of the rifle. Tula made Nagants will have the letters Ch or Cn engraved just above the arsenal mark. In Russian, the first two letters of the word "sniper" are Ch, so basically, Tula wrote part of the word sniper on theirs.
Also, real sniper versions from both arsenals will have the rifle's full serial number on the telescope. This is where people who make fakes really mess up. Usually they'll only put the last three digits of the serial number on the telescope. All Russian sniper rifles have the full serial number on the telescope, so a real Nagant sniper will have the full serial number on the telescope.
A 1903 Springfield eh? Very nice. I have one myself. =3

I wouldn't pretend to know my guns as most of what I know comes from video games (which isn't what I'd call reliable sources) and the occasional researches I did for fun. Desert eagles aren't meant for usefulness as much as for showing off if you ask me.
I wish I could have a dragunov but...well, canadian government isn't very welcoming of military weapons.

Well, if you'd like to know more, you can either ask me any time, or you can look here: http://world.guns.ru/
That site, World Guns, is run by an author who has so far published five books on firearms and firearms history and he often gets information direct from the manufacturer.
Ooh...Canada. I know the pain...I've spoken to several Canadians about military weapons and from what I hear, they're quite...well, lets just say "unreceptive" as a polite way of putting things.

Yeah... unreceptive would be an understatment. I mean, we can't even have realistic BB guns, they have to be clear plastic.
Getting any gun that may ressemble a military weapon is pretty much impossible and if somehow you manage to get one you can do... well...not much with it except locking it somewhere in your basement.
(also, thanks for the link, I'll make sure to check it out)

That it does.
There's an old saying...'Wish in one hand, shit in the other and see which one fills up first". Its crass, but its a sad truth about the world today.
Here's to your brothers in arms. They might not have been so fortunate in the military, but hopefully they can one day find the better things life has to offer.

It was songs like this that kept Me going.

Laying for hours looking out and going from rooftop to rooftop, My eye often formed a scope ring.
I looked rather interesting with a big ring of dirt and dust as well as some burst veins and what not, now I look at the old photo and can have a small laugh about how ridiculous I looked.
