This weapon is a so called Selbstladekarabiner Md. 45 or simply VG-45, it was meant to be build in large numbers for the german Volkssturm at the end of WW2
The constructer was Karl Bernitzke, a engineer who worked for the GErman Gustloffwerke (german company from that era) who created the prototype of this weapon in 1944. It used 7,92x33mm amunition and was based on the Sturmgewehr 44 (StG 44)

If you need it, I think you can get 7.92x33 ammo from your local outfitter, but I havn't had a x33 for long enough to price it.
Never shot a VG. Does it shoot well? I've seen a few, and yours looks to be, condition-wise, NRA Fair to NRA Exellent, but if you're not a member, you may not know the criteria. Hell, NO-ONE knows the NRA Criteria...
