This gets so real and sad it makes me compelled to read it more.
The truth and depth of character which is portrayed here is done so with such quality, such earnest emotions and sincere expressions, I feel it would do a discredit to the artist and author to merely stop reading. To look away and ignore the suffering is no less a sin than to deny the conviction of character in which these two display.

Indeed this is the lesser of two evils especially seeing who he would have been with as the alternative to Amon. this is gonna tear Amons heart and soul asunder even though he knows he is saving him from a worse fate (the fields).

its wierd its like yay amon saved him buuut hes gonna butsex him when hes nooot really into that but he's consent about it so im mixed emotion which is awesome for a comic

I'm going to guess that the culture in Shanivaar, by design or not, resembles that of Han Dynasty China, where homosexual behavior was considered normal and even fashionable for a time. I'm also going to guess that Dhaval is basically straight, which would explain his initial reaction to walking in on Amon, but his willingness to go forth with it. He doesn't care for it and it's not his thing, but he also doesn't have any cultural hangups regarding it, so he's not as resistant to being forced into it as he would be if he'd been a kidnapped Ameruscan. Something like that?

1. False generalization. Statistics would indicate that no, all people of either gender do not experiment at least once with homosexual behavior. In fact, most do not.
2. People have a sacrosanct individual right to grant or deny sexual reciprocity to anyone they aren't attracted to for any reason. I, for example, will not sleep with women or people with poor hygiene. This isn't because I'm selfish and don't want to share my enormous dick with the world, it's because I'm an otherwise normal gay guy with standards and limits.
3. Dhaval, like anyone, is hard-wired to a certain degree of attraction to each gender, and apparently it's predominantly geared toward females. Amon might train him to tolerate and be comfortable with same-sex intercourse, but he probably won't ever get any great thrill out of it even if he's comfortable with it. Why you gotta hit the guy? Just tell him no. I guess I understand why straight guys generally feel like they have to react violently to unwanted same-sex advantage (proving one's masculinity, lest one feel like they appear to be a fag by proxy for not minding), but it's unnecessary and it sucks when you're falsely accused of checking out the wrong douchebag in a bar or something because they never give you the benefit of the doubt.

Failing all other attempts at conveying disapproval, I would certainly resort to force, but not a kick in the balls, man. Just grab their ear with your whole hand and give it a firm (but not forceful, as ears are fragile) pull. If you do it right, their head will follow, thus forcing them to vacate your grill without risk of serious injury to anyone's reproductive organs.

I'm not so sure about the violent relationships part. More often than not, the kind of guy that does that feels as though he's expected to assert his manliness in order to be socially accepted, and that being hit on by a gay guy would lead others to be suspicious that he is gay, or at least would prompt others to make jokes about it. Therefore, he is compelled to fight said gay guy in order to reassert that he wants no part of any faggotry. In other words, overreacting to a perceived attack on his sense of masculinity.
The saddest thing in this scene is that regardless if the kid trusts Amon or not, he still had no choice in the matter. One way or another: He was doing this.

He doesn't own Dahval completely. Just for a night. The reason he 'has' to is to give Dahval a taste of what to expect. To train him into being able to do what he'll have to do in the future. It's actually more of a kindness from Amon that he's preparing Dahval for the worst of what he's going to have to do.
Red Lantern is the #1 item on my "To Buy" list, for when I have disposable income again ^^
Its rare that a MOVIE can make me honestly care about the characters, even more so a book, let alone a COMIC. I honestly care about Amon and Dhaval, and what happens to them.

I purchased the full book about a month ago, not really to see the adult content but how this would all develop. I remember seeing this preview image back in the day and wondered just what it was referring to. I mean, I knew it was going to be Dhavel's "first time" but I wasn't sure who it would be with. I received the book just as Ammon began the bidding war with the Don so at that point I knew what would happen.
That aside, I have to say that the page after this one and the last page of the volume are my favorite ones in the comic so far. The way you handled the theme and the characters was mature and the final two panels of the volume left me with a good feeling. Looking forward to when we get to see new material!

why does everyone feel sorry for Dhaval? i mean sure its sad hes a slave whore, but then you should have felt sorry for him from the start, not just because of this. he is lucky to have this, if it were anyone but Amon, he'd have to do it with a stranger straight away. They wouldn't be as gentile as Amon probably will, cause he cares. Especially that damned Coros
I think we all felt sorry for Dhaval when he was brought in passed out and drugged for the long journey. Honestly, I feel bad for him cause I kinda know where he's coming from, having had a VERY brief stint in that kinda lifestyle myself. Its not fun, and its not glamorous in the slightest. I personally say he's VERY lucky that he has someone like Amon to look out for him and help him through this sorta thing. If not Amon, it would have been someone else, and in my opinion...Coros needs to go find the biggest, fattest horse cock he can find and shove it RIGHT up his...ok, i'm being bad now, i'll be quiet.

Really strong page here. The emotions really come through in a strong way. I've written on similar themes and FA tough to make a character take the step that Dhaval has to here, accepting but not wanting... Amon's strength for him is the best transition he could have. Great writing, paired with wonderful art.
Having said that, I wouldn't hesitate to empty my bank account to get that poor tiger out of there. =/

Somehow I didn't quite see this coming during the auction scene. I didn't realize that they'd force Amon to go through with it at the time! Incredible twist, though...sad as the situation is. Has to be impossibly difficult on both ends, as neither of them want to have to go through with it. Better Amon who'll at least be gentle and slow about it than someone else.
This makes me curious, though. Was this something that Amon was expected to do from the beginning? I knew that he was supposed to be "teaching" him, but was he supposed to "break him in" as well? (For lack of a better term.) I didn't get that impression from previous pages. How else was Dhaval supposed to learn that aspect of the job?

I doubt that most males pressed into that kind of service had the benefit of a kind and compassionate teacher to ease them into that life. In this scenario, it was the choice between getting brutally raped or facing the whip. Hence the auction, to 'break in' the new sex slaves.
It is exactly that kind of grittiness, the starkness, that makes this fantasy so plausible and believeable for me. I actually feel happy for Dhaval, that Amon is able to spare the tiger the same experience he apparently went through.

I've few over the whole story a second time, and i notice a few little changes of your style in the past year.
Particularly the muzzles of you characters, in both comicseries, 'Red Lantern' and 'Cruelty'/'Unconditional'.

Is there any chance this will be released in an ebook format? I LOVE your comics no end... But because I live miles back in the bush and have no physical address... I'd have to ship them to my parents house... Which is just ackward. :p I'm more then happy to buy your comics as I can afford to, just not ok with buying physical copies is all :)
I started reading Red Lantern when you first began posting it all that time ago, but to be honest, I only got about 20 or 30 pages in and because I was so behind, have just been dismissing the new ones when they pop up. Today, I finally took the time to re-read the whole of what's been posted and I must say that I quite enjoyed it. It must be a hell of a lot of work, but it's worth it. I look forward to seeing where the story goes from here.
I'm sitting here... pulling at my hair... mixture of emotions (oh crap, I've gotten tears... o- o...) this is...I just can't begin to imagine what they're going through right now... the emotion displayed throughout this story is incredibly, and definitely has its impact.

This breaks me into tears. An innocent kid who just turned into an adult is forced into being a prostitute to but his freedom because his parents had a debt to repay. I don't know if they sold him deliberately or they never knew he was taken. No kid should have to be forced into this line of work. I hope one day Dhaval will be free to go home.
