Angel is a sorrel mare that my friend and I own. She has a strawberry flaxen mane and I was quite enthused to draw her. The shading is done by the actual differences in the shade of her coat via a particular picture on the day we got her. She is our first rescue, and was fed straight raw grain and corn. No roughage. We got her in January and her hip bones still protruded after her shedding this spring. Now they are finally filling out. Her old owners cut her mane instead of removing the burrs (now its much longer and beautiful) and her tail had been a solid mass of burrs and matting. It took me two hours to pull out all of the burrs and matts in the cold with my bare hands. We were also told she was a paint, however we are convinced she is a standardbred.
