The Complexometer
Just a little guideline when I may add $5-$7.50 to your character for complexity reasons. Not because I'm lazy or greedy and want more money - because it takes time and in some cases, the time of making another full commission.
If you're not sure about your character, just ask.

This is also a great guide for fursuiters. The more complex your character, with multiple colours or specific patterns and details, the harder it'll be to get a suit that's accurate enough to make you happy. Now that I'm getting a suit I'm sooo glad I didn't go with my original idea of being a purple snow leopard with multicoloured rossettes xD
Haha, this is awesome! It is nice that you have a defined line for complex characters, I always have to guess or ask when getting a commission from artists who do differentiate for complex characters (since my character does have wings, yerp) . This is a great way to reduce guesswork
I see characters like this all the time, and I tell myself "It's obvious, the person who designed this is NOT an artist" because, AS AN ARTIST... sure, I like fun colors and patterns... but when it comes to representing the character at an angle other than the profile... is it even possible?!! O_O Like, the "MY CHARACTER HAS EXACTLY ____ SPOTS" and, better yet, if they demand a WIP and when you show them they flip the HECK out because you forgot one of the squiggles on their full-body tribal marking.
Whenever I see spots, tribal markings, and full body markings like tiger stripes, I always assume that the artist can draw those as they see fit, that they don't have to be a carbon copy of the ref sheet. Like, when people cheap out and draw tiger stripes lazily, but then get mad when an artist draws the stripes in a more realistic fashion? Yeeeah..
Anyways. People with overly complicated characters tend to be some of the most boring and uninteresting people IRL. No hobbies, no friends, no job, no accomplishments. That's why they have such a WHEEEEEEEE LOOK AT MEEEEEEEEE I'M COOOOOOOL character. Most of the time, the characters are absolutely devoid of personality.. the character design stops at the look of the character, and doesn't delve into personality.
Good stuff here, kiddo. I like. :)

Hehe I have complex markings as well, but they are not completely fix. Apart from one or two special markings I'd like to have the Artist is more or less free in how he draws them, as long as he makes sure that ist is still recognizable as my char at the first view. Also I allow the artist to be more lazy with my markings when I order a medium detailed picture. I think that is a pretty good deal for the artists in my case
Only tribal marking character I say "Do it right or go home" with is Krystal. Her SFA markings are not -that- hard to get relatively close. Especially with massive amounts of official 3D reference available. It's an issue of laziness in some cases. But unless your character has a 3D model that the artist can paw around with, such markings are generally a bad idea unless shown flat somewhere. My char-sheet has a pelt view just for added clarity and plenty of text-based highlights.
Makes me wonder if my rika is too complex..even I DONT want to draw her.. I love to cause I love her western style..but her coat blend turns me off..not so much the markings as they are linked to my native american heritage..but its her coat that is a bitch for me..but noone else has ever complained..
The arrow is just sayin no the wing right? :D So the rest is ok, sweet!
On a more serious note though, this is a great reference for explaining commissions. There's always one with tons and tons of colors and stuff on stuff and they have to have this collar with a bajillion tags, oh and don't forget scars and that they want it realistic but not :l. Awesome picture!

I dread I would have to pay for those extra bucks, [url=http://www.furaffinity.net/full/897...../wouldn't I[/url]?
Not enough yet!
You must make arcane references that only you understand to explain why only certain characteristics of you appear in the right moon/sun/star/tv light, while also stating heavily that you are a fully fleshed-out and original character with a full backstory that will be written in due time (while only posting paid commissions of yourself in orgies with others).
Until you are like everyone else, only then will you be you! It is meta-original!
