Second upload from the recent hiking trip taken by my dad and myself to Little Lakes Valley, CA. This is the prettiest of the lakes (though this photo doesn't show it as well as my future uploads will), Long Lake. Don't even bother going to Chicken Foot lake after this one. This is the best XD
This will go into scraps later. It's a fun shot, but it's compositionally chaotic and thus bleh, IMHO. I have better offerings later that are simpler and cleaner. Still a fun shot that was worth uploading cause I think it's unique. The logs I'm guessing are the result of the swelled/flooded rivers last year when the snowfall was record breaking. This season the snow fall was record breaking small =P
!!!EDIT!!! By popular demand, I will keep it up. But I really do want to retouch it cause if it's staying up, the editing needs to be better =P

Yea, I'm a sucker for deep blacks XD The best color comes out when the image is darker overall. My next photos will be of mixed exposures (not HDR in the normal sense). I need to learn to better blend exposures in Photoshop and these next pictures will be perfect for it. Need to learn to work with Luminance Masks and such as well. I don't recall if I have different exposures of this shot or not, if I do I may revisit it once I've mastered the process. I think I'll be able to reach a new level when I can master exposure blending. Right now that's really holding me back.
There's a lot wrong with the editing on this one and I don't think I'll ever like the composition of this one, too much going on and too many leading lines going out of the frame XD

Ah, thanks. Other than having an eye for composition, it's about being at the right place at the right time. Thankfully, when it comes to nature places like this, it's almost always the right time. The problem is that you reach a point when you can ONLY accept the absolute best times, or nothing XD
You may think that composition is chaotic, but OTOH, it's different, and a run of the mill "good" composition won't necessarily stand out that much. There's just too many technically good photographers.
I like this one, it's foreground sunken logs/bg mirrored mountains chalenge the eye and that makes it an attractive composition. It's a little unusual.
Oh BTW: yosemite falls are going atit full blast. Won't last long: tuolomne is already open with only patches of snow left.
