Very cool. I love seeing development/experimentation stages of art like this with concept art in movies and stuff, really lets you get a glimpse inside the artists head, keep it up!

these lighting studies were quick to do, probably about 10 minutes throwing colour washes over the top to get the different settings :]

Yeah it is pretty amazing how changing the time of day affects the overall pic. I was originally going to do the mid day shot to expose the design of the walkers, but the cold rainy had the strongest mood.
I culled the lights in the final, spot lights facing the cameras general direction isn't a good thing to have for this situation. Plus it suits the late afternoon drizzle feeling more without them :]
