My snowserval avatar in a school uniform riding a subway train, checking on her messages.
If my highschool uniform had been this cute I would have been more enthusiastic about wearing it. Flip-phones, though uncommon in the US, are still common in Japan. Although I still have my 5 year old flip-phone ^.^.
Done with pencil, markers, colored pencils and acrylic paints on 8"x10" bristol board.

I had a trusty flip-phone for almost 6 years until about 2 months ago, then I dropped it on a rock twice in two days, didn't learn my lesson the first time apparantly, lol. The feel of it in my hand was more natural as opposed to trying to hold a thin bar phone with one hand.
Onto the image. Really love it, I agree with jeevestheroo regarding how the blues on the character stand out from the blues in the background. Looks lovely.

I agree about the feel. As it happens, my current smart phone is a so called 'candy bar' phone, but it has a slide out keyboard. Review for it (the MyTouch Q) list weight and thickness as its problems, which to me are some of its best points. Still, i do prefer a flip style, just not real practical in a smart phone unfortunately.
I have to agree with you. For some reason thickness seems to be a factor. I have an iPhone 3GS. and I keep a "speck" brand case on it for protection. When I take it off (sometimes headphones on fit through the small hole) it just feels too thin. I have no idea why, but it just does. Maybe it has to do with how sturdy it feels? idk.
But really, this is a great picture. If price weren't a factor, I'd commission.

For some reason the combination of her outfit and the fact that it includes a phone reminds me of another recent pic of yours. ("It's my cellphone").
I had a flip phone until it died about two years ago. We don't actually know whether the phone itself died or the battery; in order to find out, we would have had to try a replacement battery in it, and since that model phone was no longer available it would have to be ordered at a cost of about $75 and a wait of several days without a working phone until it arrived. It wasn't much more to get a new phone with more features that I could walk out with then and there, so I replaced it. I never could get the hang of texting using the numeric keypad on the flip phone; I like the slide-out keyboard on the new one much better.

I still use a flip-phone: bar-types and smartphones are not my thing in the least. I can abuse the living hell out of my basic flip-phone (it's a Samsung!) and reasonably expect it to work. I've dropped it on concrete repeatedly, I've run over it with a light truck (!), I've kicked it down a hall, I've flung it at a wall, and so on. Touchscreen-based smartphones are not durable enough for me.
Adorably cute! Really like how you did the stockings.
I still have a Motorola 120E that was a bit behind the times when I got it back in 2004. Most people hate the thing, but Old Reliable just keeps on clunking, er, running. It does what I need it to. I have a replacement if it ever gives up... another 120E.

Ahh, my first cellphone was a flip. I do miss them, as they seemed a lot more durable. The last three phones I've had are all the usual smartphone type, and it sucks you can't toss them in your pocket for fear of keys or change scratching the screen.
Your character has the most adorable face, btw. :3
