Yeah, the flat webs are harder to take pictures of. The fibers are thin and if the lighting or camera specs aren't right, then it's hard to get a good shot :<
But get the light right (or find one early morning beaded with dew), and the results can be pretty impressive.
It's funny, but sometimes it's the little things in nature that can make the best shots.
