I think the most scales I've made in a single sitting is 10. Too many at a time and I go crazy, haha. Mostly I get 4-5 done at a time, here and there over the past week or so. I can't wait till it's done!

Looking pretty epic already. Do you work the scales in the round?

Yep. Before I started making them, I wasn't sure whether I wanted to do them as "double layer" (in the round and flattened), or as flat "single layer" scales - which I guess would still be in the round if I did a disk and added some chain stitching and sc to one side to make it pointier. I decided to do it this way because I figured it would keep it cleaner, easier to tuck away loose ends of yarn. Plus it's sturdier!

I agree that this was a good design choice. ^^
