✿STORY INFORMATION ABOUT WHISP✿
Whisp is a Will-o'-the-Whisp. A playful spirit that resides deep within a forest in the Japanese countryside. She appears to lost travelers and wanderers as either herself (pictured here) carrying a black lantern with a blue flame, her animal form, or simply a lantern containing a blue flame (sometimes just the flame) in the distance. If the person she comes across is a child, or has a good heart... she will lead you out of the forest. Should she come across a person with an evil heart, she will lead them further into the forest to encounter other spirits that reside there. Before she is seen, distant bell chimes can be heard that come closer as she approaches.
✿WHISP'S LIFE✿
Whisp was born in China. There she was found and adopted as a pet by her master and taken back to his homeland in the countryside of Japan. There she lived as the beloved pet of the household. Her master tied a beautiful silk scarf made from an old kimono around her neck and named her "Whisper". He was an older man, and while his life had brought him many riches and servants he had no living family. Whisper brought him great joy that had been absent in his life and she loved him as much as he loved her.
One day, her master packed up a cart of furs he had acquired hunting in a sack and left with two of his servants for the city to barter, taking the same winding trail through the forest, as he had many times before. Her master's servants saw to it that Whisper was fed, but the more time that passed... the more anxious Whisper became for her master's return. After several weeks had passed the two servants returned with the cart and a fat sack of gold but her master was nowhere to be seen. One of the servants that resided in the house began to load the cart with her master's belongings.
Sensing something was wrong, Whisper took off into the forest down the winding path searching for her master. She ran as fast as her little body would go. Further into the forest at the edge of a small gorge cut into the earth by what was once a roaring river, she heard the sound of a man struggling. Knowing it to be her master she slid down the less steep side of the small gorge and found her master. Now, a very old man, he was covered in bruises and cuts and had a wound on the side of his head that was seeping blood. His right leg was twisted in such a way she new it to be unusable.
At the sight of Whisper the old man's face brightened through his pain, and he smiled though one of his eyes had swelled shut. She ran to him and he held her to his chest cooing, "Oh Whisp, my little Whisp." He cradled her in his arms and she listened to his heartbeat... once... twice... three times... then silence. His arms went limp and the old man's life left his eyes. Howling in pain Whisp refused to leave her master, and there she died curled up by his side.
Now she roams the forest as a spirit, a guardian of travelers, and forever her master's loyal pet.
