The pride wasn't large.
Cal was this season's only cub and at that it wouldn't be long before she went to hunt with her mother and aunts.
That would make 4 of them, they might finally keep a kill.
As if to confirm her worries, her mother returns, leading her two aunts back.
No food.
She doesn't have to ask why they've returned empty handed.
The two hyenas have been plaguing their pride for the last two seasons...
They'd learned exactly how to drive the lions away from a kill and did so over and over.
Hardly any meat comes home.
Tonight, Cal thinks to herself, things will change.
After dark falls, she sets off into the grassland, away from her home for the first time in her life.
Her stomach growls in protest, having had no meal in days.
This will fix both problems.
-It takes her till almost noon, but there, next to what's left of her pride's kill, lie the two hyenas, bloated with the meat they stole.
Now's her chance...
Bloated and unable to get away she grabs the first before he even wakes.
Strong jaws clamp over his head to stop his own jaws grabbing her.
Secured already, in only moments she swallows him down, throat stretching to accommodate him, swiftly leaving nothing but a bulge in her middle.
The second had deserted his brother the moment Cal had attacked, waddling away as fast as his legs can carry him.
Not fast enough.
Even with his brother struggling inside her she catches him in a few strides.
This one she doesn't have time to grab head first.
instead she snaps up and swallows his hind legs, then his bloated middle and lifts him off the ground.
His greed is his undoing, thanks to his huge and stolen meal he can't turn and bite her and as quickly as the first he is gone.
She lets out a proud belch, her belly sated and her pride's future a little brighter.
After a little rest she heads home, belly swaying beneath her.
So I drew a pred with a nice round belly but I wanted to try drawing one caught in the act :p
So here's my best attempt at a lioness disposing of two kill stealing bothers for her mum. ^^
