Dhoti - "Here's Trouble In The Offing"
I decided to create a teenaged cousin for the Kutus; a playful, uppity hyena girl named Dhoti (clever, right?!) who's just moved here from the old-country, staying with Mama and Papa Kutu while mom and dad finalize the move..
Mostly it's because I have too much fun drawing cute spunky little hyena girls; I like kids that age, they have so much energy and everything is cool, new and interesting (I spoil my nieces and nephews something fierce), and hyena girls is like "teenager +++". We had a great time in the stream kibitzing about her getting Wolf into trouble (Her getting permission to get a piercing, Wolf chaperoning, and her coming out of the shop with the same number of ear piercings she went in with ... so where did she get a piercing ..and how is he explaining this to the large hyena guardians?!)

Bonne chance mon vieux! =)

In the alternate future that my characters live in, the general region the Kutu family are from is considered relatively lawless by our standards, and the areas that are civilized have very different ideals (they're just plain culturally different, as you might expect from a female-dominated tribal monarchy). Some of the "kingdoms" are really old-fashioned (tribal) and some (like where the Kutus come from) are pretty modern, though they all hail from the same roots.
Part of the conflict for the relationship between Wolf and Dhoti is that Wolf just sees her as a really cute kid, kinda precocious, but hey, she's a teenager, they all have their quirks; Dhoti sees things a little differently. As a female hyena she sees herself as supposed to be in-charge, and Wolf is "just a male"; however, she's in a different country and a different culture, and from watching how the Kutus interact with Wolf, she knows the rules are different, she just hasn't figured out exactly *how* different yet.

Conflict is the basis of all good story-telling, it doesn't have the be direct or open conflict (fighting/enmity), all it has to be two two unlike things coming into contact. In the case of the wolf/Kutu interactions, the conflict basically centers around people not being what they're expected to be.
