This was, by far, my favorite panel of this comic to work on. I'm a bit of a sucker for grief, I guess. . . .

Beautiful work! Immediately when I saw this picture I thought of this song:
http://soundcloud.com/rockstargames.....ears-by-health
I think it goes with what Reis is feeling perfectly.

I must say that it is an exceptional panel--exceptional in the way it's capturing the emotion. It's one of those moments where, although you feel for them, you almost want to look away for fear that you're stepping in on a grief that's needed to be let out alone. *wishes to hug Reis, but can't because that would go back on what I just said*
You mean...crying? Crying is now "an amazing portrayal of emotion"? Have you ever picked up a real literary work or even a good graphic novel in your life?! Go read The Sandman or The Watchmen or christ, even Spawn. Those have much better emotion than crying kids and cliche dead parent plots.
'Crying,' as words go, is a rather lazy and milquetoast description for the emotion he's portraying. Sadly, I'm not poet enough at the moment (sleep deprivation sucks) to describe the sort of shattered, excruciating grief that's portrayed here.
Whatever your vendetta is against this kind of art, please don't be a jerk to the artist here. I'm enjoying the work, and don't want to see Rukis get torn into by someone who's clearly got some sort of major problem that has to be resolved through sarcasm and pointless trolling. If you have a problem with the work, please feel free to state your problem in a respectful fashion so somebody might be able to learn something from it.
As for Rukis' writing, I personally think it's quite good. Better than mine, anyway, and I've put up over 1,500 pages of fairly well-received short stories and novellas for the fandom in the last couple of years.

It's just crying. It's not grief or some grandiose emotion, it's a mediocre portrayal of a supposed tough guy breaking down, going completely out of character, and trying to milk an emotion to satisfy an emo fanbase.
Rukis' writing is riddled with cliches and unoriginality, and it's not even that current or relevant (ragging on Westboro Baptist was last year's fad). When she can write something other than a "woe is me" gay melodrama, maybe I'll be impressed.
As Joss Whedon (a good script writer if ever there was one) once pointed out, you never ever make a character cry or say "I love you" until you're ready to end a specific plot. otherwise it just jumps the shark.
As for you...you're probably displacing your own emotions onto this rather bland and uninspiring piece. And I really couldn't care how many pages you've written for the fandom--my nephews and nieces write cute stories too, and they go up on the fridge, but I don't see anyone racing to publish them lol. Quantity=/=quality, EPSECIALLY in a community like the fandom which preaches acceptance and huggy-shit over harsh, realisstic critique.
It's ok though. Here, I have a tragic expression of grief, mourning, and unrequited love for you to fawn over before I go. Ready?

You're absolutely right about quantity versus quality. I never claimed my pieces were any sort of grandiose 'art,' worthy of publication or even praise by obscure, bitter hipsters with a bone to pick (seriously? Who gives a crap what last year's 'fad' was?). Frankly, most of my writing is terrible, which is why I really don't go out of my way to seek out publication and whatnot. What I was meaning to say is that, as someone who has tried (and largely failed) to be a good writer, I recognize that Rukis' work is very pleasing and interesting to me; relatable in a way I admire, because my own work pretty much fails in that regard.
You happen to disagree with my opinion on the quality of Rukis' work, and that's fine. I just think your language and method of giving critique here has been unnecessarily sarcastic, abrasive, and plain rude. Real critique shouldn't sound like you're insulting or attacking someone, it should be phrased in a way that is helpful, respectful of someone's effort, yet also honest and bereft of saccharine platitude. Additionally, insulting the person rather than giving criticism about the piece is just plain pointless, unless your objective is to hurt the artist. Most people respond to critique like yours by ignoring it, because you're being a jerk and people don't like feeling attacked. Thus rendering your criticism fairly worthless, since it won't help the artist in question improve anything.
Anyway, Rukis, I hope you don't take this guy too seriously. Sounds like a grouchy troll to me. While I doubt anyone currently involved in the furry community will turn out to be our generation's Mark Twain or Charles Dickens, your characters come across as realistic and interesting, and your plots are concise and full of interest for me. I hope you keep putting out all sorts of interesting stuff to entertain us ungrateful web-furs for a long time to come :)

I'm not attempting critique here. I'm just laughing at morons who mistake bad writing for "genuine emotion" because their own emotions are so out of sorts. It's simultaneously endearing and disgusting, and I'm filled with a mix of pity and revulsion at the site of it which evidently robs me of my ordinary nonchalance and compels me to take an interest in an otherwise decidedly uninteresting affair.
Anyway, sounds like you and Reis have plenty to cry about together. I'll leave you to it :-D
(Also, LOL at the notion of me being a hipster. I am quite certain that my complexion is entirely too dark these days to rock a scarf and paper-boy hat with giant sunglasses. And I never did care for Indie music. Damn hippes!)

:P Adorable trolling here. You have much better command of grammar than most of the morons that wander around 4chan acting like a bunch of spam-bots stuffed full of pointless mockery and thinly concealed narcissism.
Word to the wise: You won't 'save people' from the art you personally dislike by standing around bagging on it. People like what they like. For example, I can't fathom why my parents find Survivor and The Bachelor so interesting when I find those shows to be trashy demonstrations of human pettiness, but there it is. They enjoy those things, the way some people enjoy art you personally find deplorable.
Too bad. Grow up.
xD Haha well, glad to hear you have a nice tan.
Going to bed now. Too tired to bother continuing.

Having shed blood for my rights on soil both foreign and domestic, I daresay I earned the chance to exercise free speech, even if it means being a completely juvenile, boorish ass from time to time (not that anyone needs an excuse, after all--it's the internet!). I'd love to see your credentials for your self-appointed position as the Grand Arbitrator of Internet Conduct--please feel free to email them to me along with social security number and dental records at your convenience XD.
Anyway, I'm not trying to convert anyone. I'm here for fun, and to take the Queen Bee (or should I said, Queen B@%$&) down a peg now and again. I'm certain she can rejuvenate herself in a pool of her emo fanbase's tears should she so choose, so I somehow suspect my gentle reminder that her writing is in fact crap by any standard other than the fandom's will leave her, at day's end, quite unscathed.
Now, off to get work done. You've been a fun and sufficiently polite opponent, if not necessarily a wise one, and so I'll acknowledge your begrudging praise with a modicum of grace. I tip my hat to you. So long!

You've got my respect for having shed blood in defense of freedoms the rest of us take for granted. Thanks for that. As for my 'credentials' as Arbitrator of Net Conduct, I'm afraid there isn't a government agency for that just yet. When there is I'll be sure to laugh my butt off trying to figure out what Congress is thinking. Nonetheless, the same that you have a right to point out art you dislike, I have a right to point out behavior that I find offensive.
Well, this has been enjoyable :P Nice to actually argue with someone who's got a few brain cells to make a circuit with. I don't agree with your tactics, but you at least were willing to engage somewhat reasonably. Anyhow, have a good day!

Alright, I have to step in here and say something. I have been watching this artist for a long while, both on this site and others, and I have *never* seen any of the behavior you've described. What I've seen are some really nasty people attacking artists *personally*. Not just her, either. It's a bad habit in this community, because it gets people attention, and it's awful trendy to hate on popular artists. I've seen good-intentioned debate over critiques, I've even taken part in some, but this vein of 'critique' is NOT that. It's a personal attack, and masking it as anything else is a lie.
Taking pleasure in tearing apart someone's work is one thing, but you are literally expressing pleasure at tearing apart someONE, and that's really shallow.
If you don't like this or any other artist's work, don't look at it. It's really that simple. And if you want to be taken seriously as a critiquer, never insult the artist personally. Despite how highly you clearly value your own opinion, you do not KNOW the artist, and you are in no position to make judgments on their character. I've seen the worst of the worst of critiques on this artist in particular, and if I remember correctly, all she did was thank them for the exposure their slam piece afforded her comic. If you don't like her work, that's fine. But that's your opinion, and other people are entitled to their own. Everything in the arts is a matter of personal preference. I happen to think a lot of Joss Whedon's stuff was complete dog shit. He isn't the gold standard. This is the guy who wrote 'Buffy', alright? Citing him and then complaining about overuse of melodrama and cliches is about the worst way to back up a point if I ever heard one.
The bottom line is, regardless of how you feel, there's no need to go off on a reader who IS enjoying the comic. Slam the comic if you want, but please don't be nasty to the readers. And if you really hate this artist's work so much, stop scrolling down the images she posts and carefully reading the comments until you find one you can attack. That's really telling. I'm here because I *enjoy* this work. Why are you here, if the artwork offends you so much?
Answer: to start drama
And that's really cliche, man.

You know what's also really telling? The fact that you'll rant for pages on your own perspective, but won't actually read someone else's. 'Dramatic' is using words like 'Queen Bitch', calling other members of this community 'morons' and 'idiots', and ranting and raving over fictional characters, in their fictional dog world. What 'Dramatic' is NOT, is explaining to someone calmly and rationally, and without insult, why the way they're expressing themselves is not constructive.
But by all means, feel free to continue your temper tantrum. It's only revealing how very, very immature you are. I hope in some way, this has all made you feel better about yourself. You sound like you need it.

Whether that's in fact the case or not, you really make yourself out to be kind of a jerk by mocking people in the fashion you've engaged in tonight.
If you have a personal vendetta with her because of your perception of her reaction to criticism...Well okay cool, but please don't mock me too.

I think I might vomit rainbows. Is this over-saturated sentimentalism what sells comics these days? I blame the high volume of emo teenagers in the fandom right now. No, this isn't heartwarming, or touching. It's vapid tearjerking dribble and as cliche as it gets. Don't even get me started on the use of the Westboro Baptist plot to try and rile people up in order to mask unoriginality.
Rukis, just draw a gangbang shower scene already and stop pretending you can write. You're not fooling anyone but idiots, darling, and idiots are not hard to fool.
"Pain" is truly an apt name for this piece, because it's exactly what any accomplished writer would feel when looking at the ridiculous responses this shlock seems to elicit.

lol, well someone's cranky :P
I have no desire to draw a gang-bang shower scene. Far too slippery, and utterly unrealistic, if you ask me. There are plenty of other artists who'll fill that need for you, if you go look for 'em. Although I have to say, I think it's a tad funny that you're calling the rest of the folks here who enjoy this comic 'idiots' when THAT is what you want outta my art.
I do comics because I *like* to, and luckily, I don't have to listen to what random strangers tell me to do with my time. I'm gonna keep doin' my thing, which happens to be THIS, and loving it, thank you :) If your desire is to never again have your eyes assaulted with my AWFUL, TERRIBLE comics, it's as easy as not visiting my page, 'darling'. Peace!

That is a very captivating image and I can imagine for the readers of Unconditional who have experienced loss in their life Reis' statement must have affected them.
One (very) minor drawing aspect I feel to notice, is the movement of Reis' lower lips. If a wolf can cry as humans, would his lips quiver as illustrated? Suffice to say Rukis did a great job portraying this emotion.
