9, 10 and 11.
I'm going to here regale you with my reactions to this unbelievable series.
9th Doctor: He's a bit mean, but I love Rose, and I'm a bit uncertain about the episodic nature of this series but it's alright. Tally ho!
10th Doctor: Still not sure about this episodic thing but I love 10 and Rose.
End of second season: WTF IS IN MY EYE ARE THESE TEARS OHGAWDOHGAWD MY HEART WHAT IS IT DOING.
Third season: WHY YOU MAKE ME LOVE DONNA AND MARTHA THEY ARE NOT ROSE FUCK OFF YOU okayfineIlikeyoutoo T_T
End of third season: WOAH. WAIT. WOAH. WAIT NO. WOAHWOAHWOAHWOAHWOAH. FUCK OFF. THERE WAS PLOT ALL ALONG AND I DIDN'T KNOW.
Fourth season: Donna we would be pals. TEN WHERE ARE YOU GOING NO WAIT WHAT I'M NOT READY FOR THIS!
Eleventh Doctor: Fuck you, Matt Smith, you aren't David Tennant and I saw pictures of you you look like an alien. Ohwait.... Um... okay so a pretty hot alien... Okay and fish fingers and custard and WAIT I didn't want to love you you aren't Tennant.
Fifth and Sixth season: *mind blown. Incoherent babbling. Totally in love with Eleven and Amy and Rory and don't even mention River Song or I'll spontaneously combust*
There's apparently tons of dissent over who's the best doctor/companion and all but know what... they're all amazing in their own ways... and it is so rare that I ever love so many characters in a single show, usually I've got ONE favourite and everybody else can go suck a goat. In this show I literally love everybody.
Also they only seem to make cheekbones like this in the UK.
P.S. Don't post spoilers and I don't bloody care if you think one season is crap and the other is gold or whatever, stfu, I LOVE EVERYTHING D8<

VERY briefly and hopefully spoiler-free... having grown up with the previous cast of Doctors, I can totally see what you mean, and agree with your feelings. Davies is excellent at setup and buildup, but his penchant for every season ender being Bigger and Apocalypticer than the last one did feel like he painted himself into a corner. Though I still liked the big villain reveal, and felt New Doctor was given yet another chance at his redemption.
Moffat needs an editor, badly. Great at individual episodes, but only starting to get a handle on a series-long arc plotting.
I like your assessment of Rose. But you want badass? SARAH JANE. She never let us down. Such, such a loss.
I'm done fanning! *giggle*

Okay I drew an Ianto now you must reciprocate the Iantoness. /jk XD You might actually succeed in making him look like -him- because he has these really difficult features to capture. o.O You rocked the caricatures of these actors to a tee, especially David Tennant. I have to say I am -really- loving all your face portrait sketches, your earlier batch is what made me want to do mine. :3
I should be doing work but all I want to do is portraits of my favourite BBC characters. I haven't even done all my other faves from Sherlock, which consists of the entire cast. Ianto is a bit tricky I think. He's like Matt Smith, his face is a rectangle, except he has actual eyebrows. I still need to finish Torchwood foiwuerouwer.
I liked the somewhat lean/mean style of 9, actually. It lent him a bit of depth and while we all knew the Doctor put on a good happy-go-lucky front, this showed a bit more of the weariness and anger he had over the events in his past. In "Dalek" Nine was literally spitting with rage during one of the scenes! I thought that was fantastic.
Love the bust sketches, you really captured Nine's smirk and the expressive eyes of Ten and Eleven.

I can understand liking him for that reason too. And I did love his acting. I don't think I had much time to get attached to him though, and I definitely lean toward good writing and with that season there was this... uncertainty in the writing? Like they weren't sure if this reboot of an old series was even going to work out, so the writing was a bit disjointed as they got their footing. Like I said, I love everybody for different reasons in this show, even Ninth Doctor, I just didn't get as attached to him as I did to Rose XP
Gods I love Doctor Who soo much. I can't wait to see how everything turns out in this next season. I still want to say Donna is my fav companion, mainly because of the unfair ending she got compared to a lot of the other companions. Ughhhhh I still miss David Tennant as the Doctor though. I wasn't expecting Matt Smith to be so good, but he really did surprise me. He's really awesome. But I am not a fan of how they split the seasons up for him between basically two parts. Anyways, keep up the awesome Doctor Who fan art, I won't complain!
Because I watched everything all at once it wasn't split up for me. So I didn't have to deal with that. I think probably it worked out in the end though because the writers could take a break and collect themselves to do something awesome rather than throwing something together to meet deadlines that wasn't as inspired as it could be... if that makes any sense.
Yeah it does. I've been a fan since right before Rose left, before Martha came on. I also really got into Torchwood and watched a bit of The Sarah Jane Adventures. The 10th Doctor's seasons were pretty set, but the 11th started to get split in half. It bugged the crap out of me because I had to wait like 2 months for it to come back. Anyways, it's great!
By some absolute fluke, my roomie and I watched the episodes of Torchwood which corresponded with where we were in Doctor Who, thus making certain plot twists that connected between both shows doubly mindfucking. I wish I could tell people to do the same if they sit down to watch it but I don't even know how we managed.
Honestly, all the changes turn me away from the series for a while too. Then I sucked it up and watched it, and fell in love all over again. I admit, some of it is a bit silly at times, and it seems like Amy is more serious than the Doctor is sometimes, but it is definitely amazing. All the plot lines tie together so much in the new seasons, you don't even notice it until it's revealed.
i love doctor who so much just seeing doctor who art makes me want to break into tears because i am having trouble waiting for the new season.
they're all my favourite doctors, but i love Nine because he's still so angsty and mad about the time war and Rose basically warms up his hearts and just ugh fuck tears

WHAT YOU SAID. YES. That is why I love Rose and don't understand them Rose haters. Doctor would still be a cynical hateful upset man if not for her dammit T_T Not saying I disliked Nine, he just wasn't my fave, but he was only there for one season so I had less time to love him.
I think the whole point of him since the reboot is "Doctor needs companions" - especially considering what he had done just before "Rose". Donna also saved him. Martha... not entirely sure. Then they reversed it - Amy needed him. Changed the dynamic a bit.
Once you see some old episodes, you'll notice the different attitude towards the companions.

LOVE
DR. WHO!
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
Sorry, had to get that out. I love all Doctors, but I really did love David. I've also mostly only seen him, but my Who loving friends have introduced me to the others. I also love Donna. Want to hug her. I always seem to catch one episode, and it always makes me cry because it's a sad one.

See, it took me forever to sit down and watch Doctor Who because EVERY TIME I saw an episode it was always Waters of Mars. Always. And I had no context, no idea what anything was, only the vaguest notion of Doctor = time traveller Tardis = time travel machine and everything else might as well have been a foreign language. I'm glad I watched it marathon-style now, I don't think I'd have understood it otherwise.
Yeah, I was lucky enough to have an older brother who also loves Dr. Who, and loved the original Doctors 1-6(?) as well. I don't remember if the older series got to 7 and 8, but I think they explained it somewhere along the way in the new one. I want to sit and watch it marathon style, I just don't really have the time. I could probably make the time, but I don't have access to them all. Which makes me sad, by the way. XD
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE you opened the floodgates, woman, the FLOODGATES
You can't really compare the series (current shows) to the seasons (previous shows) too much. Different intents, different audience, different mindset. It kind of shows it was restarted by basically fans, whereas before it was a long-running program and there was this set of guidelines to follow, what we'd call Real Writers commissioned for episodes, even just having what were 2-hour episodes split over a month, and the tongue-in-cheek knowledge that was it wasn't fully serious. It was the US fans and their conventions that took the BBC by surprise a bit.
They did seem to keep the general feeling that with every regeneration, the Doctor gets younger. Next, he may very well BE a teenage woman. Likely red-haired, as wanted. Though uinlikely that Amy basically becomes the next Doctor, we saw her grow up. :x)
Took me a while to warm up to most characters. Donna I hated in the Special, and grudgingly tolerated during her season until Turn Left - and then it clicked, and I loved her in re-watching episodes. I didn't know she was primarily a comic actress (or Billie Piper a pop idol, though I knew Kylie Minogue was a singer, didn't know she was an actress, did NOT recognise her).
Is it bad I feel that last year's special (Christmas Carol) may be impossible to beat? That VOICE... *soft sigh* love how Michael Gambon, in the Confidential, says during filming he kept just staring at her in lovestruck awe as she sang for real despite knowing it was going to be overdubbed. (She knew, and it shows - the throat muscles would be completely wrong if she just mimed.)

Honestly, I'm quite new to the whole series, and I'm glad for it because I don't find anything different, new or changed to be off-putting like some diehard old-time fans seem to. Actually I find the fandom more off-putting than anything, which is why I avoid it and stick to the Sherlockians who blatantly worship the canon instead of fighting over it (I'm sure there's some hateful part of that fandom too but I haven't seen it and I'm not about to go looking).
I'm going to watch Fourth doctor, just a matter of getting my hands on it. It could either go well or very poorly. I admit that I only started really loving Doctor Who when Steve Moffat's episodes came into it though so I may be too busy mourning his lack of writing on it to enjoy it properly T_T
I feel like Eccleston is under-appreciated. I enjoy his upbeat "I don't care but, underneath it all, I do" attitude. He is so eccentric like that and I think he plays it off quite well. It's a shame that his run only lasted for 13 episodes. I have yet to see the other Doctors. I myself have only gotten into Doctor Who this year. Nice drawings of the three new doctors. :)
I tried to download it but I couldn't find any downloads that are still online.
My fiancé has huge problem with understanding the british accent so we have to watch it in german...so...it's a bit of a problem o.o;
But I'll buy the DVD as soon as I have the money and find a store that has it. ^^

True, it was one of the Doctor-light episodes, but it's hardly the only one. The "Silence in the Library"-"Forest of the Dead" arc was almost as good. "Turn Left" too (although that's another Doctor-light episode). "Midnight" (and that one's all about the Doctor). The Master arc. There were just so many great stories during Tennant's time as Doctor.
It's very true, there were. Silence in the Library and FOrest of the Dead remain two of my all-time fave episodes but that entire story arc involving River Song just overwhelms me with feels T_T I honestly love Tennant and Smith both too much, I don't have anything negative to say about 'em XP
Wow man awesome stuff. I was very skeptical about Dr Who first since I felt it was just an annoying fad, but then my fiance started watching it and Nine really rubbed me the wrong way. But once David took over WOW I could not get enough of this show. I watched all that I could and I only want MORE MORE MORE!
A friend recently loaned me the 2006 Series and everything after that. My first contact with the Doctor, not counting the one or two episodes I caught on german TV and made little sense to me then.
Now, first up front. The series with the 9th and 10th Doctor. Aside from everything else, it was FUN to watch. That's something the producers should try more often no matter the genre.
9th Doctor, that smile/grin is just irrresistable. I just had to smile with him.
10th Doctor, better actor, not as much charisma than the 9th.
11th Doctor, hmm... well, the actor is good, but the stories... well, they work, but looking at the 9th Doctor, they could be better overall.
Best Character: Captain Jack... Harkness. No contest here.
Best Companion: I won't go there.
Most Funny: Daleks talking to the Cybermen.
Most surprising and moving: "I did my duty for queen and country."
Most distressing: The kindness and fury of the Timelord. It's scary what he can do if he wants it.
And whenever he can, he gives his opponents a chance to give it up.
*sigh*
The end of the earth.
The Titanic over Buckimham Palace.
The Daleks...
You know, the Daleks have actually taken the # 1 spot in my personal villain species' list. Not the Borg and not the Cylons (old and new).
They are just creepy if I think about it. Flying tincans, smaller than I am, each with the shields and firepower of a space fighter. Add that to their singular purpose... 'EXTERMINATE'. *shivers*
Last thing that surprised me. The number of 'normal' people willing to sacrifice themselves. Something else other Series/Movies should put in a little more often. No heroes, no main characters, normal people. That's something Dave Tennant as the 9th Doctor brought over well. His reactions to being saved by someone sacrificeing themselves. For example, 'Voyage of the Damned' and others.

aesome work! so recognisable!! i agree with you and all your points, that's the rollarcoaster i went through and some of the older docs and companion (being english, i grew up with doctor who...IT's IN MY BLOOD!!!!) but 10 and Donna will always be my fave!! what a pairing!!!
Your first reaction to Matt Smith was MY first reaction to Matt Smith! XD
Eccleston did a rather interesting job, considering he was the actor who helped launch the revival. Can't really blame him for much. Tennant, though, is...hell, just an awesome actor overall. Still my favorite. Smith, on the other hand- Whoa, wait, bare with me now... Smith...though it's true he's no Tennant, and I found the first bit of his premier season to feel a bit rough, I've seen that he's got his flow going in the latest season, and he's actually not bad as the Doctor. Tennant was good in that he could hit the ground running and make it his own. For that, he will forever be my favorite doctor. However, I've grown to love Smith now, too. And bowties, for some reason.
AAAAANYWAYS, moving along to the art comment, you did a good job recreating not only the look, but the feel of each doctor respectively here. Hell, I'd actually love to see a full body piece with these three playing cards against one another, or going pubbing, or something silly. X3

i still wish the 9th doctor had been on longer. awww, i miss that actor. though i ahve to admit, i didn't really feel sad when he regenerated because, its still the same doctor, still with the same memories. In my opinion, the saddest parts are when the companions leave.
