Just a bit of an update on how Theod's head is coming along. I promised myself that I would be posting more progress-like photos on DA/FA instead of only uploading to Flickr. So have some progress!
The first photo shows the scale and proportions the head will be as well as in what position it will be mounted to my head.
The other two are what it currently looks like in the sculpting stage. I had some help from my teacher, Todd Debreceni, to get the eyelids looking boss. It gives me a happy. I have never worked with something so large before nor do I have hardly any practice working with clay. (Edit: the final mask will be casted in resin or rigid foam- it won't stay as clay, sillies)
The clay is wax-based and known as "Monster Clay" from Monster Makers. It's an alternative to plasticine. The gray base I'm sculpting on top of is closed cell foam... or better known as a high impact floor mat.

I'm slowly but surely achieving my lifelong dream to one day be a dinosaur when I grow up :>>

I'm going to see how resin fairs me first... if it's too heavy I'll switch to rigid foam. The outer covering will be velour knit with airbrushed scales.
Oh, there'll be articulation all right, I'm just keeping the details of what all that entails a secret for now :3
Ah yes! I'm definitely going for a nice blend of cartoon and realism, but being an animation student, the most important feature will be how it moves and I definitely would like to get some neck muscle action going on if I can!

As charming as they were, I asked my teacher if he knew where I could get some 3" eyes... and he magically spawned them from his trunk of supplies. IT WAS LIKE HE KNEW :UU
I didn't know how the stress balls would react to heat and I didn't want to ruin them so I swapped them out. These I can paint too!

Thank you! I'm very happy with the results so far :3
Also I'm just thrilled people seem to really enjoy Theod as a character, which just makes me want to work on a webcomic or something featuring his story even more <3
Gosh, this is certainly the most involved project I can think of doing (well ok, I do have a lot of other ambitious projects I'd like to tackle lined up too XD) but you haven't even seen the half of it yet. I cannot wait to reveal all the neat features I'll be including in this project to make it come to life even more!

Oh man I would absolutely -love- to see a comic featuring him and his world. I get the impression that there are a lot of worldly and civilizational details that you have worked out already. XD
I think the amount of effort you're willing to put into it is really gonna shine through in terms of adding something huge to your portfolio. Sooo excited to see this project continue and I wish you all the luck possible! Definitely a big undertaking but I think you've got it under your belt. :D

Sadly no. It's on the back burner for now. I accidentally left this head in the car and the clay melted...
Also the digitigrade stills need to be re-designed, the current ones are too dangerous for proper costume performance and have been dissembled.
Someday I will ABSOLUTELY return to this project!
