You might be wondering just how an otter is considered a desert creature. The otters (and beaver) are part of the riparian area exhibit. Riparian areas are oases where permanent rivers allow trees, grasses, and water plants to grow in the Sonora Desert and the otters live in some of those areas. They're also a heck of a lot of fun to watch at the museum when they aren't sleeping like this.
