"Every question's got an answer, and I plan on discovering as many as I can. Why? Because it's there. What more reason do I need?"
Another commission I got from
...Meet the poison-dart frog Carmina Varskiil, scientific prodigy and heiress to her family's fortune and land holdings.
She's set in the world of Fortissima's Treasure Hunters :http://th.pensandtales.com/ ,
's comic.
As you might guess from what I've said thusfar, the Varskiil family's quite a wealthy one, owning vast mining interests in the nation they hail from, as well as several assets abroad...they're part of the upper-crust nobility from that nation as well, and as such they're afforded special privileges that the rank-and-file don't get.
One of those privileges is international travel and return....if an ordinary person leaves, they're not allowed back in. Why not? Well, that's simple: the nation Carmina hails from is based on the power of science, and people there are told that magic doesn't exist. Of course that's not true...people are barred from returning so they can't tell about what they might've seen.
But just in case....there's a large anti-magic barrier shrouding the whole country, inside which magic won't work.
Only a few of the nobility know of the barrier's existence, and Carmina's one of them.
As for Carmina herself, she's not entirely normal, even for one of her family...her bloodline's spawned more than a few geniuses, including her father.
While performing an early experiment, something went horribly wrong and she was inadvertently killed as a result. Of course, the anti-magic barrier prevented necromancy from being performed...but that didn't stop her father from traveling abroad with her remains and rebuilding her, resurrecting her as a sort of organic construct....she's got a lot of her original flesh, though on the inside she's been augmented quite extensively with synthetic parts.
She's really embraced her new body well and now travels the world, seeking to learn as much as she can about the various types of magic that're out there...she'd discovered that she had a knack for magic early on when travelling abroad with her father, and she's actively seeking to merge the power of magic with that of science and technology.
Personality-wise, she's extremely inquisitive and curious by nature...she's also quite sly and clever, and is quite masterful at manipulating people to get what she wants. That said, she's generally a good-natured (if slightly eccentric) individual....just don't cross her. The consequences can be...unpleasant.
...and yes, she's a herm. More on that later. Suffice to say being a frog has some....unique advantages.
