D-C Armories: Bren L4A3 Mod-2 "Abjurement"
Been too long since I last uploaded a gun picture. This is the next in the line of Dee-Cee Armories systems that Dee (seen here) likes to build in her spare time.
"Abjurement" is an experiment in modernizing obsolete weapons for a modern battlefield through ergonomics and under-the-hood tweaking and customization. Dee's theory (and my own) says military spending could be reduced by a quarter or even a third if more time was spent reworking older guns (which are still lethal, obviously) to be easier to maintain and operate (which is the main feature in modern firearms). While it doesn't have the modular nature of some of her other projects, Abjurement does have a bumped-up fire rate of 575rpm (this slows to 530rpm as the gun heats up or in extremely hot climates in order to prevent overheating, thanks to the computer-controlled gas-release mechanism). The chamber has been tweaked to accept the modern NATO 7.62x51mm round, and the barrel has been strengthened and made slightly heavier to resist warping and reduce recoil while the gun is being carried via sling (not shown). The standard 30-round box magazine has been replaced with a 76-round drum magazine adapted from Soviet weapons, and a pneumatic stock has been installed to dampen the effect of recoil on the operator's shoulder when fired from the shoulder or from a prone position. The bipod has been removed here, but can be reattached easily.
